A fully playable demo will be shown off at E3 this June.

IGN just reported it.

Nintendo Press Report

Not sure how I feel about this. Excited, yet worried at the same time.

@-JKR- The hell are you talking about lol. They can't announce their new home system without being accused of shoving their handheld system to the side? They gotta announce Wii 2 somewhere, and E3 is the place to do it... and Nintendo has always managed a home system and a handheld system. I don't understand where you're coming from.

@-JKR- My guess is that they planned to announce it at E3 with a blowout, rumours slipped, and they felt like rather than have everything run rampant they wanted to gain a bit of control over the flow of information. You know, they're basically saying YOU CAN STOP WORRYING ABOUT RUMOURS NOW, ACTUAL INFORMATION WILL BE HERE VERY SOON.

@carlosrox (and also JKR I guess) Who said they are "dedicating this E3 to Wii 2?" Of course it will be huge but "playable model" to me sounds like a tech demo or two, not actual games. 3DS will most likely still get the spotlight with the games and I'm betting it gets the most focus as well. 2012 will be Wii 2s big E3?

Yep, I think consoles will always launch holiday time - so Project Cafe has two E3s to go before it launches, most likely.

@-JKR- Didn't they announce the 3DS just with a short text report before officially unveiling it at E3 too? I'm not really surprised.

@carlosrox I doubt they'll dedicate the entire show to Cafe. I'm sure it'll get a lot of spotlight, but with it being a year or more away and the 3DS being out now, I doubt they'll just ignore the 3DS or push it to the wayside. Nintendo is pretty familiar with how to handle having two systems available, after all.

Except they didn't do it at E3, did they? They did it mere weeks after their last gaming system release. Which is my entire point.

Yeah, and that sucked too. I'm not surprised either, I'm sad to see the old way go is all.

Anyway, it's after Easter so technically I can argue again, but I don't really want to. I enjoyed the break and don't feel like going back to the way I was. So I'm not going to make a big deal out of this or anything. I said my piece and now I'll move on. Hooray Nintendo console in HD at the very least. So we have one E3 that (for me and my love of the 3DS) will probably suck as the media reports nearly 100% on Project Cafe. Oh well, life goes on and I'll still get my Star Fox 64 3D and Prof. Layton vs. Wright.

(We need a smiley_peace thingy like IGN used to have...)

But it won't suck for 3DS fans, there will be like a billion playable 3DS games and of course they will be reported on. And even if, for some reason, the mainstream media ignores them... we apparently have a bunch of Negative Worlders going to E3 so we will still get to hear about them and hopefully they will write some news/impressions/etc. up when they get the time.

Wait, are we arguing right now? I can't tell.

*looks up from playing Pokémon White*

Oh, a new Nintendo console is gonna be revealed? And it's coming out in 2012? Sweet!

So I wonder if this means that the controller is past the prototype phase?

Remember pre-PS3 launch when Sony was showing off the boomerang controller? Well, they ditched that and stuck with the dual-shock design.

If Nintendo is unveiling Cafe at E3, will the controller, specs, case, etc. be finalized? A year to 1.5 years before launch is a long time to fiddle with the final product.

YOU'RE arguing, I'm trying not to, lol.

We will see what happens. I've been following and in the gaming journalism biz long enough to know that "new console release" means dramatic cut in coverage of anything else. Because they want hits, and that news will get them much more than "Oh, the new Layton game in 3D looks amazing." As you said, there will still be bits and pieces around the net about the 3DS, however now it will be tremendously less. Considering the system has been reported to be off to a shaky start, this is NOT the way to follow it up. It will look like they're abandoning it from the bigger picture perspective. You and I know that's not true, but the masses will not. And honestly I count on the masses to help me get more games and more Streetpass Miis, so I'd like for them to focus 100% on the system they just released!

I remember E3 2005 (the E3 after the DS's release) was pretty much the DS's coming-out party. It was the first time I can remember being extremely excited for the future software of the system coming out, so I think we can expect the 3DS to pretty much be the star of the show after some brief unveiling of the next Wii...similar to how the 3DS didn't overshadow the Wii last E3.

@TriforceBun

But the Wii didn't just release a few weeks earlier. That's the big issue here. The Wii had time to stand first on its own.

@-JKR-

What a cruel, cruel world you live in.

@-JKR- Nah I'm disagreeing, not arguing, there is a difference. Arguing is like DUDE, WTF CRACK ARE YOU SMOKING? NINTENDO WILL CLEARLY DO A, B, AND C AND YOU'RE CRAZY IF YOU THINK OTHERWISE.

Anyway, I think you're worrying a bit much. Wii 2 info will get tons of stories sure, but there won't be much to cover there besides some info and tech demos, so there will be plenty of media room for 3DS.

I don't think Nintendo will have any problems talking about the 3DS and Project Café, they've alway had a handheld and a console business.

My guess is this E3 will be more or less a 50/50 split between DS/3DS and Wii/Café.

@deathly_hallows

Yea, but the media might focus more on the Cafe stuff!!

Why are you guys worried about the 3DS being overshadowed? What about the Wii! We have virtually no information about the second half of the year for Wii software, that's what I'm worried about... and I don't have a 3DS yet, so... yeah.

Is this going to be Twilight Princess all over again?

@Paleo_Orca

That's true, but for me I figure the Wii is dead at this point. With the next console replacing it, I don't see it going any further. The 3DS is just getting started!

It's not all doom and gloom, though. As long as there's considerable software coming before Holiday 2011 (and I don't mean shovelware, UBISOFT) then I think the 3DS will be okay.... I hope.

I doubt it, they need a big Wii game for this holiday.

@-JKR- In theory Nintendo could have Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Kirby, Rhythm Heaven, and Pandora's Tower featured. They could also localize a few games they have ignored up to this point and feature them as well. And maybe even feature Dragon Quest X, if indeed it is still coming to Wii and has anything to show off yet. And of course, they could feature some new games.

But I think the Wii will be almost completely ignored.
