It's back to the usual format for the Negative World crew in the wake of the 3DS launch.

Guillaume is forced to accept a truth that had been staring him in the face for a long time, now, but that he cannot escape any longer: he is the last person on Earth to still care about the Wii's Virtual Console. The rest of the crew manages to muster some excitement for the potential of the 3DS virtual console, however!

Deathly_Hallows makes up for his absence in the special 3DS episode (due to mic problems) by talking about Ridge Racer 3D, as well as backing the host's positive opinion of Steel Diver.

JKR (of Fred the Monkey fame!) decides that for his first appearance on the podcast, he should tackle the very non-controversial topic of Nintendo's stance on the iTunes App Store and its effect on the gaming industry for developers and gamers.

Finally GelatinousEncore, having already discussed his favorite Nintendo franchise in the first episode, decides to talk about his second favorite, Metroid, and the franchise's descent into linearity and female obedience.

The opening music comes from your lovable despotic site owner, Zero, with original lyrics by JKR!
The closing music is an awesome remix of the Brinstar theme from Super Metroid, from NWer Autokymatic.

As usual, comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. on Negative World! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

It's funny how I said "River City Rampage" meaning to say Retro City Rampage, and the rest thought I meant River City Ransom.

Man, is it really time for a podcast already? Has 2 weeks really went by that quickly. I am not complaining, but it just seems like yesterday I listened to the 3D podcast and I don't recall seeing a thread about a new podcast. Anyways, I listened to the Intro before posting this...yea, the Intro is funny...not sure if I could embarrass myself like that even if no one actually can see me...I've actually been told that I sing fairly well, but I hate listening to myself, even if its just a recording of me talking.

Anyways, cool! Its saturday afternoon, did my grocery shopping and got a few other things out of the way and I was wondering what to occupy my time with next..well, now I know!

Edit: Actually, I enjoy the VC and WiiWare. I have almost 50 games downloaded and there are many others I would like to download, but I don't cause I don't have the time. I'm not saying I will not download more games, but time is a factor and I need to play the games I have downloaded and have not played or finished playing.

There is that Light game on WiiWare and the Punchout style game which I played the demo and its actually really cool.

I'k about 53 mins into the podcast, now listening about the I-tune's app store.

First, I will admit I do not own an Ipod or Ipad, just like Pandareus(sorry, thats the name Ive know you by since IGN). Both of my sons own ipods and my mom bought an ipad(not that she ever uses it, but she has to nothing better to do with her money than buy the latest popular gadgets like that).

Anyways, all I will say about the games, which many are decent and fun, but imo they are just timewasters, definatly not games I take seriously like games on a console. Also, many games are free or only like a buck or whatever. I agree with Iwata, how good can something like this be, which is free. At the same time I am not worried. I do not think most videogaming fans are going to quit buying console games in favor of these timewasters

Also, my kids and all of thier friends have thier ipods...I think the term is jailbreaked...like they don't have to pay for anything. Yea, thats going to make these developers alot of money down the road.

Lastly, the comment about Nintendo having a unified system and being able to play say 'Super Metroid' on any old system you have....Now, are you just talking about different Nintendo systems, like the Wii, DS, 3DS, Wii2, ect...then I would say thats fine...but I do not agree games like Super Metroid should be available for the Ipod, PSP, NGP or whatever. Now, I guess if Nintendo wanted to make those games available for those systems and an individual could buy them for that system, thats fine...only problem there is it might cut into Nintendo's hardware sales.

Overall, I think stuff like the I-tunes App store and other similar stores, giving away stuff for free or making software dirt cheap does hurt down the road. It ends up teaching people to be cheap, to expect thier games or whatever software to be free or very cheap. In turn developers make less money and are willing to put less effort into thier projects.

One thing I notice with this gen. of games and even last gen. there are not as many lengthy games being produced. RPG's like Final Fantasy are fewer and farther inbetween. Even games like Mario Galaxy and DKCR are not as plentiful. While I do not mind playing shorter games, I like my meatier games as well and actually prefer them to the shorter games. I know many here might say they do not have as much time as they did when they were younger...and this is true. As an adult I do not have the extra time like I used to, but alot of that has to do with me choosing to spend my time doing other things. When I was in my 20's I had plenty of time for all these games and then I was working and going to school. Time just seems to fly by now.

But screw us older folks, there are still young people around today and software in the Apps store is teaching these people to accept this type of inferior software as the norm and then they want all thier games to be free or only a buck.

Overall, while I like the Internet, I dislike it as well. The Internet has brought down the sales of music that people used to buy on records, cassettes and then Cds, with all of it's free sharing sites like lime-wire and the earlier ones which of course has been shut down. But there are still others out there. Sure, I will admit, just like JKR said about wanting to have stuff for free is great. I would rather not have to pay for my music or games. Who wouldn't? But when you really start to think of the ramifications of stuff like this, in the end it will hurt the consumers, because developers will see less of a return on thier investments and start cutting corners in order just to break even.

So, is Iwata right when he said this type of inferior software and it's cheap or inexistant pricing will hurt in the longrun? I am not expert, but if I had to pick a side I would say he is more right than he is wrong. At the same time I am thinking that maybe this cheapass or free software on the I-tunes app store may not affect anything.

Only time will be able to tell.

You have no idea... especially towards the end when you talked! The connection would cut mid-word, resume a split second later where it left off. In many cases I managed to stitch the word back together, and you'd never know!

@Guillaume
Yeah in the last segment my connection was pretty choppy, there were times where I couldn't hear what you guys were saying at all, I didn't know I was cutting out too! Sorry about that, sucks it caused you a lot of extra work. It was pretty neat to hear how much smoother things went after the editing. My internet is usually pretty fast but there are some choke points where it really slows down, shitty Time Warner, I might try to get FIOS and see if I have better luck.

I know someone mentioned about needing one more rating on Itunes. I never have been to the itunes site, so if someone wants to post a link so it makes it as simple as possible. I figure I would need to register on Itunes, but that I can do on my own. I am talking about a link where I would rate the negative world podcast.

Or maybe I will need help registering. I am on the main page and I see nothing to click on to register on the site. Already to me Apple=big failure...way to go Apple in making it easy for someone to sign up on your site.

@gamewizard65
iTunes is an application, it plays music and videos ect. and it also has a store where you can buy things or subscribe to podcasts (which are usually free). To rate the podcast you need to do it from the store, to find the podcast is easy just search for "negative world" in the search bar.

Here is where you download iTunes:

Sword and Sworcery is the only iGame that has ever appealed to me. I'll pick it up when it comes to iPod Touch.

Wow, this mic sucks. Next time I won't sound like I have a mouth full of marbles and live on the moon, promise.

EDIT: And hey! I thought you would fade out PRIOR to the fade out part!

You should have been on this episode, instead of these poseurs...

I love the VC.... well...I loved the idea of it. I'm not going to lie that it's been a big dissapointment lately - I have Nintendo Points dying to be used..where's my FF VI? TMNT IV? Super Spike? *sigh*

I have almost given up on it entirely.

.. good PCast though!

Or maybe he has an iPod Touch and could have taken your spot instead.

Oooooo! Burned!

I... I'm not getting on any podcasts for a while, am I?

@Marsh Me too! Although I already have Mega Man X, but if I didn't, I'd be so there. I'm not sure what else they're lacking that I want though. Maybe something like Secret of Evermore.

@-JKR-

Let's see how much advertising your appearance on your blog bumps the "ratings" first.

... Can you tell who's downloaded it? Like, some guy... whoever... couldn't just go download it 90 times himself just to prove his worth, right? Or... yes?

Just wondering. I would never do that, so if it's downloaded 90 times it wasn't me. It was me 89 times and my mother once.

Anyway, next time I do join in, whenever, I'm going to record my end here at my office while talking to you guys on Skype and then send you that file to add in. It will be much clearer than that lousy headset mic and you can remove me from talking if I shouldn't be talking!
