Nintendo Unveils Heroes, Mystery and Motion in Second-Quarter Video Game Lineup
Roster Includes The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D with Master Quest, Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust and Wii Play: Motion with Wii Remote Plus

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo of America today revealed a diverse lineup of new video games set to launch during the second quarter of 2011. Whether they’re playing at home on the Wii™ system, having fun on the go with the Nintendo DS™ family of systems or discovering the new Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system, consumers will have a wide variety of engaging, inclusive experiences to choose from as Nintendo and its publishing partners unleash more than 50 games in the coming months.

“Games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Wii Play: Motion offer exciting additions to some of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, while our third-party partners continue to provide blockbuster gaming experiences for Nintendo systems.”

A June 19 launch date has been set for The Legend of Zelda™: Ocarina of Time™ 3D, a re-mastered edition of one of the most acclaimed installments in The Legend of Zelda series, created exclusively for the Nintendo 3DS system. Wii owners, meanwhile, can look forward to the June 13 launch of Wii Play™: Motion, which includes 12 new motion-controlled games and will be packaged with a black Wii Remote™ Plus controller. Upcoming games also include Mystery Case Files™: Dust to Dust™ for the Wii system, which combines the seek-and-solve fun of the puzzle-based series with adventuresome story elements, multiplayer modes and the intuitive motion control of the Wii Remote™ controller.

“Following a tremendous launch for Nintendo 3DS, our roster of upcoming games for Wii and all of our hand-held systems will keep the momentum going strong into summer,” said Marc Franklin, Nintendo of America’s director of Public Relations. “Games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and Wii Play: Motion offer exciting additions to some of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, while our third-party partners continue to provide blockbuster gaming experiences for Nintendo systems.”

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D brings a completely re-mastered version of an epic entry in the beloved The Legend of Zelda game series to Nintendo’s newest hand-held system, Nintendo 3DS. The game couples phenomenally enhanced graphics with stunning, glasses-free 3D visuals to bring to life the daring adventures of its hero, Link™. A streamlined touch-screen interface and newly implemented motion controls provide a fresh and intuitive feel as players immerse themselves in the tale of the creation of Hyrule and the struggle for control of its all-powerful ancient relic. The game will also feature new challenges not included in the original game. The Legend of Zelda veterans can look forward to the Master Quest – a second quest with revamped puzzles and redesigned dungeons that feature the same graphical and interface upgrades as the main game. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D is a masterful improvement on one of the landmark releases in video game history.

With the June 13 launch of Wii Play: Motion, Wii owners will be twisting, turning and enjoying themselves like never before, whether they’re newcomers to the console or have already discovered the fun of the popular Wii Play game. From catching a gust of wind by tilting an umbrella to fending off garden pests by swinging a mallet, each of the 12 included games will have players smiling wide as they use their Wii Remote Plus controller (or Wii Remote with Wii MotionPlus™ accessory) in a variety of interesting, sometimes unexpected ways. Wii Play: Motion comes packaged with a Wii Remote Plus controller – which combines the original Wii Remote controller with the precision of Wii MotionPlus – to deliver great value, precise motion control and immersive social fun that anyone in the household can pick up and instantly enjoy.

Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust brings the intrigue and sleuthing of Big Fish Games’ Mystery Case Files series to the Wii system for the first time. The game transports players to the enigmatic Malgrave Island, where they must hunt for hidden objects and solve puzzles to collect a magically powerful dust scattered across the island. Anyone can delve quickly and easily into the game’s rich seek-and-solve action, using the Wii Remote controller to examine multi-layered hidden-object scenes, locate cleverly concealed items and obtain inventory items that will help to overcome brain-teasing obstacles. Multiplayer features allow players to team up and crack the case together or face off in a competitive hunt for hidden objects. (Additional controllers are required for multiplayer features and are sold separately.) No matter who’s playing, it’ll take sharp eyes and a keen mind to get to the bottom of Mystery Case Files: Dust to Dust.

Third-party publishers will offer a spectacular range of new software for Nintendo systems in the months to come. Among the upcoming games for the Wii console are Konami Digital Entertainment’s Karaoke Revolution Glee: Volume 2 and Disney Interactive Studios’ LEGO® Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game. Nintendo 3DS users can look forward to a May launch for TECMO KOEI’s DEAD OR ALIVE® Dimensions, while Warner Bros. Interactive’s Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is set to launch simultaneously for Wii, Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS family of systems on June 7.

Meh, handhelds screw everything up

But for the purpose of crazy theories and generalisations lets take a closer look:

It seems that when it comes to Nintendo's handhelds *every* generation instead of every other gen like with the home consoles. The hardware revisions seem to substitue in place of a simple "upgrade" generation.

Observe-

GB-> GB Pocket -> GB Colour

GBA-> GBA SP

DS-> DS Lite-> DSi/XL

3DS

From GB to GBA to DS to 3DS you can see the clear jump. All the entries in between are the upgrades.

...I know, I know, it's not perfect, but meh

Eh.

I still think Nintendo won't go with a mere upgrade. The landscape has changed a lot. I mean, a graphical "upgrade" from the Wii would basically be a PS3. Which already exists, with a motion controller. How would Nintendo convince gamers that the next big thing is a console that does what a 5 year old console already does and a motion controller that does what that console's motion controller does?!

Nah. They're going to come out with something new. What that is, I have no idea.

This is what scares me since it's so true.

@Zero

Exactly. I have been saying that same thing for a long time. And if Nintendo just does come out with a WiiHD, then I guess they don't give a shit about being the market leader anymore. The only thing is, if their next console comes out before Sony or MS releases another console and its like 10Xs more powerful than either the 360 or PS3. So powerful in fact that Nintendo characters like Mario, LInk and Samus can actually leap out of the TV into your living room. They then take hold of your hand and take you into thier gaming world.

Now that would be the ultimate.

@gamewizard65 Ultimately expensive though. I think graphically we can't expect much more than a PS3, unless Nintendo wants a hefty price, and I doubt they do. And, like I said above, PS3 already has a motion controller comparable to Wii as well, so Nintendo can't bank on having that edge. So I think the answer will be something that is new, but also not super costly. What that is? Hell if I know. But I really, really don't see Nintendo just doing a basic upgrade for Wii 2.

The only thing I don't understand about that logic is that the PS3 has already gone down in price, and it still includes many bells and whistles which Nintendo doesn't care about.

I still think they could release a much more powerful console than PS3 (10x isn't necessarily that much since PS3 was like supposedly 200x that of the PS2) and sell it for a reasonable price. Nintendo obviously isn't that scared to charge more for consoles though since 3DS was more expensive than DS.

Iwata wouldn't keep talking about keeping Wii 2 secret until it's almost ready if it's just "more powah!".

Reggie wouldn't say things like we don't think 3D will be the next Wii's hook, if there wasn't a hook at all.

There will definitely be something. And not the Project Buttefly, console for life rumour. That's still just "more powah!" but over and over again.

I think Nintendo probably know better than we do what the new angle for the console should be but I really can't think where they can go from here. It has to be something that is straight forward to use, very innovative and you just "get it" straight away.

Even if they stay with Wii MotionPlus, they could still offer an innovation in another area. Like the 3D in the 3DS.

Voice control? Big, color, remote touch-screen add-ons, for a return to connectivity?

@GameDadGrant
That doesn't count! Handhelds don't count!

@carlosrox

Ok, fine, it's the same as the Move. And if it gets HD then it's the same as the PS3. It's still Nintendo making the games and that's what matters to me. I don't want there to be innovation for the sake of innovation, motion controls are still new and they haven't come close to getting the most out of them. I want them to focus on that for another generation, instead of trying to shoehorn something else in that will likely mean neither innovation gets fleshed out to the extent it should.

I'd bet that the vitality sensor will be built in to the Super Wii controller.

@anandxxx Did it have zealots? I thought de Blob was alright, but I didn't feel the need to play the sequel.
IIRC Simba and JKR are both de Blob fanboys.

@carlosrox But if it isn't significantly more powerful than the PS3 (which would cost), it'd get compared to the PS3 anyway and no one would care because a PS3 is old news right now. It'd be, essentially, like if they had released the Wii without motion controls, and just expected everyone to get excited because it was a new console that was slightly more powerful than older consoles. And then especially no one would care when the PS4/Xbox 720 released a year or two later with everything the Wii 2 has and then some.

@WrathOfSamus777

Yeah, I'd probably classify myself as a de Blob fanboy. Which is what makes it so odd I didn't buy the second one. (As I said, they made me have to choose, so I chose none.)

@-JKR-
I thought you said you were getting it on 3DS?

@Zero

Does it really matter if people get excited about it? There's still so much room to grow with motion controls, I want Nintendo to be focusing on that, not on some new innovation. Just as an example, if Wii 2 were in 3D somehow, I'd be fairly disappointed, because I'd expect them to shift focus onto that and perfecting motion controls would likely become an afterthought.

@WrathOfSamus777

Well yeah, if it HAPPENS. But we don't know if it will.

@Jargon Well, it does for sales and 3rd party support. How much room for improvement on motion controls is there really? Wii Motion + is pretty darn accurate, I think. Not that they can't be polished, and they probably will be, but I think something else will need to exist. It might not be "3DTV-less 3D on TVs!" or anything epic, but something.

Like you know... a Wii remote with a pedometer and StreetPass/SpotPass. lol? Ok maybe not that, but I dunno. Something. Something I can't even guess at right now because it is Nintendo so who the F knows.

@-JKR- If it doesn't happen you can't just get the Wii or DS version?!

@Zero

Well I certainly expect fun little things like that which Nintendo always brings and I'd love to see big time improvements in online functionality, of course, but what I mean isn't that they should improve the hardware of motrion controls (except for a Nunchuck plus, as I mentioned) but that they should actually flesh out the games that use them.

Zelda, hopefully, will be a big step forward, but we still don't have much in the way of games that use WM+ in exciting ways. Hell, we don't even have Mario Tennis or Mario Golf with WM+ controls. I'm actually really hyped to see what Wii Play Motion is like, because it could be a blueprint for how to use WM+ in ways beyond the traditional "swing a sword" or "swing a sporting implement" ways that immediately spring to mind when you think about motion controls.

I guess what I'm saying is that improved hardware is always nice, but the bread and butter is games and while Wii has had some good motion controls games, it still feels like the NES level to me. I'm hoping Wii 2 takes it to the SNES level. If that costs some sales, I personally won't mind and I frankly don't think 3rd party support is going to happen anyway.

The thing is, Move COULD be taking it to the next level, but it isn't. That isn't standard hardware, of course, but I have to wonder if the audience even gives a shit anymore. Kinect seems pretty popular, and it isn't the most accurate of technologies in many ways.
