Everything no one ever really needed to know about the 3DS! This episode is packed with so much great content, it had to be split in two!
In part 1 Casper, Warerare, Paleo and Pandareus discuss being an early adopter, the 3DS hardware and the built-in software. Discover how the 3DS has turned Pandareus into a creepy stalker in spite of himself, find out that Warerare's Streetpass Plaza is a sausage fest, and learn that Casper is envious of both of them for these things.
In part 2, we finally discuss a selection of launch games: Pilotwings Resort, "Raymon" 3D, Nintendogs + Cats, Ghost Recon, Super Street Fighter 4 and Steel Diver.
As usual, comment on the topics, the podcast, the guests, the host, etc. in this very thread! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.
@Pandareus I'll get around to listening to the podcast later this week, and I'll definitely add it to my StreetPass playlist. That's definitely a cool way to promote it!
You really don't need to gift me a game but I'll definitely add you to my address book. Its always good to have a fellow ExciteBots owner in your roster. Going downstairs to add you now.
edit: Wouldn't it be cool if they came out with a Skype or Skype-like app for the 3DS? Then you could have a 3DS podcast where all speakers were on their 3DS!!
Just a minor constructive criticism... the music cut at the beginning from loud music to quiet music/talking was pretty jarring. I liked the fades from the past podcasts better.
Not much else to say yet, I'm only 10 minutes into it or so.
you guys are awesome. listened to the 2 episode blowout. you stay on point and have a real passion for Nintendo and it shows. You gained a fan who only hopes you keep up the solid 3ds coverage. An E3 blowout (pre e3, post e3 or handson coverage or all of the above is welcome).
Wow, Pandareus! You have a lot of posts as an IGN user. Its a wonder I never ran into you over there....maybe I did? I still have 4,999 posts over there. Good to see we're spreading to other communities.
You are the kind of listener podcasters dream of having, sir!
When are you going to make an appearance on it?
You're too kind, sir.
I've thought about appearing on the podcast before, but I just don't see myself contributing much to the conversation. I don't even know what my topic would be, though I know you mentioned several times before in the podcast threads that coming up with a topic is really not that difficult.
Another good podcast! Good job laying out the format, everyone stuck pretty well with keeping it organized.
Pandareus' story on his repeat StreetPass encounter at the cafeteria was funny. You’re getting to know this person you’ve never met before, and now you know stuff like his birthday, etc. StreetPass offers an interesting way of social networking. (Oh, how I wish I could get at least one StreetPass ).
Pandareus, it was great you mentioned the other podcasts that have been talking about 3DS. I listen to those same podcasts, and yeah, they seem to have some of their information mixed up, such as the ability of the 3DS to play music while in sleep mode.
Another thing the ‘other’ podcasts had been talking about was whether 3D will become a significant factor in enhancing gameplay elements. Panda’s own story about how poorly he performed on Pilotwings after switching 3D off is clearly testament to that. I believe the 3D creates a situation where you can more easily discern your environment without you realizing it that much.
Oh, and regarding the hardware, I’m not sure you guys mentioned the charge cradle, but that thing is so convenient. Just drop the 3DS in and walk away. You still have the option of using only the AC adapter on its own.
Casper had plenty to say about the 3DS and would fit in quite well if he ever joins an ‘Iwata Ask’ panel (laughs), while Paleo had to remain quiet for most of the discussion. Of course, Paleo doesn’t have his 3DS yet, but he plans to get one.
I enjoyed the comprehensive overview of the hardware, the software, and every detail in between. A 2 hour-and- 30-minute podcast is quite long, but you guys spent that time very well, and for such an important system launch, the 3DS deserves this kind of treatment.
And I must say personally, Super Street Fighter IV is an impressive launch title! It is the only 3DS game I have right now, but I've been splitting my game time with other games. I haven’t given it my full attention at the moment, and I want to practice a little bit more before playing online, but it’ s all good.
By no means did I intend to keep you out @warerare! Of course, you had some great contributions as well. Your dedication to Pilotwings is to be commended.
I'm also glad you mentioned the merge tool for taking photos. For some reason I forget that feature is even there and I have yet to use it. I'm really interested to see how your Mii merging with your real self came out. Post it here if you want.
And you did bring up how Nintendogs' face recognition works, which resulted in casper describing how his family could not grab his puppy's attention. It is weird that the effort to make the game realistic that way will make it less likely to impress your friends with how interaction with the puppy works.
