Triumphing over busy schedules and general apathy, the Negative World crew brings you the fourth installment of its epic podcasting saga.

Peppy‑le‑Fox asks the all-important question: is backwards compatibility really as important a thing to have as all the whining on the internet when a new console doesn't have it would lead one to believe?

Pandareus scratches his head and wonders what a Nintendo gamer is supposed to go out and buy during this Wii drought. No, he's not looking for something to play, just like many gamers his shelves are crumbling under piles of unplayed games. But for compulsive game acquirers everywhere, this drought situation is untenable!

Mr_Mustache could have talked about a variety of topics, being the multidimensional onion that he is, but it was made clear to him that if he didn't talk about sports games on the Negative World podcast, no one ever would. Stay tuned after the end song for bonus sports talk!

Finally, Paleo_Orca returns for a second appearance to try and figure out what Augmented Reality is good for, beyond virtual pets and shooters. Will he find the answer he is looking for? And did he really just manage to be on a podcast without once mentioning marine life?

As usual, leave your comments on the podcast, its host, its guests and its topics in this very thread! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

Alright, I finished episode 4. Great job!

I like how Panda and Stache take some jabs at each other here and there. All in good fun of course.

1) Regarding sports games: I'm not a sports fan, so I generally don't follow sports games. The only sports games I have ever played with a passion are the Mario ones, especially Camelot's Golf and Tennis.

I also love Mario Strikers, though that game strays so far from a sports game and more towards an all out brawler. It's very arcadey.

Stache, your team creations sound awesome! Mario, Zelda, Pokemon teams... presidents, TV policemen, haha.

2) Also, for the AR... it's pretty interesting to see it further developed... like the strategy game that Stache just thought of on the whim. I'm wondering if it's practical to maintain the 3DS in one position for a long match though. I honestly don't know enough about the technology to think of new ideas. We shall soon see its wonders

I've been doing that for years, haha. I think I stole it from Brother Wease (radio dude) back when I was going to college/highschool. But yeah, it snuck in somewhere, and now I don't say "bye" to any of my friends. Its always "huuut!" (and they respond in like) I don't know how to spell it..

That's very interesting. I don't know anyone else with such a distinct phrase.

All my crap at the end!

--And the beginning!!

Stache, you've injected some flava' into the NW podcast... Poor Stache.

Indeed! That intro and extro basically makes this episode the "stachecast". It's Peppy, Paleo and myself who should feel slighted/underrepresented.

As far as the AR thing goes, I really wish we had been more prepared to discuss it. And Stache's question about "is it like those iPhone applications that show you how far something is", I said yeah, but really they no doubt use the GPS for that. They don't recognize the surroundings based on what the camera sees.

@roykoopa64

Jabs, eh? I didn't notice

--Haha, I have NO IDEA what happened to the "Mario" topic. I was asking what they wanted me to talk about in relation to sports, and somebody (Pandy?) suggested talking about the Mario games. Problem there, I don't know much about the Mario games. I figured I'd leave it there for one of the other guys to build with..and we just FLAT OUT IGNORED IT, haha! I'm told the sports ran long anyways, so yeah..

As for that, if I'm interested enough in a sport to get a game about it (ie: I have a favorite team, I like the draft, etc), I usually want to to be a full game. I've never played the Mario baseball game, but I know that I'd be thinking "man, I wish I could play as the Orioles.." Now, something like Golf I DON'T care about as much, so I can settle for a more arcadeish game. I had Mario Golf on the N64 and played the crap out of it, and then Super Swing Golf on the Wii. So yeah, I guess those are good as intermediate titles? Kinda like a halfway point between "man, you really like this sport!" and "you'd like to be playing something else.." Perhaps the Mario titles are "gateway games" leading to more in depth sports games? Perhaps if you like this, you'd enjoy a game with more stats/options? I know I played a ton of real golf during my Mario Golf summer. Weird.

And Roy, I'm going to make a thread on that game (my theme teams) very soon. I don't know why I didn't make it Day 1 when I got here. Had I done that, I might be done already (I still have a couple teams to finish. Those freakin' jerks).

@Pandareus

Haha, stop it! This is just me, what did you want me to do!? I could've sat there and said nothing..but we're on a podcast! That stated, I'm glad that those saying they liked the podcast as a whole and any of my parts enjoyed them! It was a good time, and we all had fun then, and I'm sure we'd collectively had fun again. I felt really comfortable with you guys, and nobody sounded/seemed nervous or anything. I feel bad if you guys really feel underrepresented..

Yay, another call-out! And almost three, since Mustache pronounces my name exactly like anon_'s!

Good podcast, guys. I think we should have a weekly sports section.

@anandxxx

Isn't that how your name is pronounced?!?

I've been calling you "Anon'd" for 3+ years!!

Mario Tennis 64 got me interested in the sport, ever since then I watch the U.S. Open every year. I'm trying to find people to play with me irl but no one around here likes tennis. :(

I just listened to the podcast for the first time right now (i.e. not while recording it or editing it, but really listening to it).

...oh my god, couldn't you guys have stopped me when I was rambling!? What was that long, tedious explanation to Mr_Mustache that "there is a GameCube inside the Wii" about? Wasn't that the most condescending thing ever!? And there was something else I needlessly overexplained, but I can't remember right now. And at the same time we made comments about obscure stuff that we never bothered to explain... I really gotta work on that.

Alright, so I wasn't exactly in top shape when I recorded it, and we (I) lacked preparation, so those are my excuses... but in the future, I think I will ask you guys to not let me go on and on and on. I'm so sick of hearing myself after this episode!

The podcast got more enjoyable to me around the time... we talked about sports.

@Mr_Mustache
No, that's pretty much completely wrong, but it is a mispronunciation that I am familiar with. Listen to the beginning of Episode 3 for the actual pronunciation of my name.

@Pandareus

You were pretty condescending every time you talked to me. And I was daydreaming.
To wink, or not to wink..

@anandxxx

Argh! Why would you not tell me the first second I did it!? I can't change now!!
(.... I just went to listen to Podcast 3, and when I pressed play, it commandeered my Windows Media Player and squashed the downloaded smut I'd been saving all night. Nooooooo!! Damn you, "on-on'd!!)

I probably DID tell you. But it's kind of unpronounceable, anyway, for gaijins.

There was a period of time in my youth when I'm pretty sure I forgot the actual pronunciation of my name. Because everyone at school called me On-Ond, and my family and Indian friends called me... other stuff. Then, one day, I remembered the real pronunciation, and I made everyone start pronouncing it more correctly. But not correctly.

Also, you can probably get your smut back by searching for a large, recent temporary file. Well, you could HAVE.

@anandxxx

Did you just call me a ninja?!

--Haha, how do you forget the pronunciation of your own name? Inconceivable!!
What did your family and Indian friends call you!? I'm pretty much your family!
