Triumphing over busy schedules and general apathy, the Negative World crew brings you the fourth installment of its epic podcasting saga.

Peppy‑le‑Fox asks the all-important question: is backwards compatibility really as important a thing to have as all the whining on the internet when a new console doesn't have it would lead one to believe?

Pandareus scratches his head and wonders what a Nintendo gamer is supposed to go out and buy during this Wii drought. No, he's not looking for something to play, just like many gamers his shelves are crumbling under piles of unplayed games. But for compulsive game acquirers everywhere, this drought situation is untenable!

Mr_Mustache could have talked about a variety of topics, being the multidimensional onion that he is, but it was made clear to him that if he didn't talk about sports games on the Negative World podcast, no one ever would. Stay tuned after the end song for bonus sports talk!

Finally, Paleo_Orca returns for a second appearance to try and figure out what Augmented Reality is good for, beyond virtual pets and shooters. Will he find the answer he is looking for? And did he really just manage to be on a podcast without once mentioning marine life?

As usual, leave your comments on the podcast, its host, its guests and its topics in this very thread! Or, be a weirdo and post them on Facebook or Twitter instead.

@-JKR- Scary, but you're right, it probably would sell.

How did at least two people get the idea that I had never heard of it? I pointed out the whole side-scolling/vertical scrolling thing!

I just never played it...

Oops, my bad. I'll be a better listener, I promise!

2) When you guys were talking about what to do in the middle of the Wii drought, I was immediately thinking of my response: MASSIVE BACKLOG! And then Stache brought it up quite well, as if he were listening to my very thoughts!
ie I need to spend more time playing my untouched games...

No, that IS why I said it. I listen to your thoughts on weekends when I'm sitting at home. Thanks, dude!

--And yeah! I can't believe these knuckleheads haven't played LifeForce! Its not like I said "Shingen the Ruler!"

@roykoopa64

Haha, I am surprised/honored/pleased that anyone is listening at all, even badly!

Mustache somehow sounds like he's from the South, even though he's not. Yaaaay, Roguelike talk! And a mention! And a threat!

Life Force is totally not hard, dude. It's, like, the EASIEST of the Konami shooters. Except for Stinger. Which is even awesomer.

Everyone on this board has played Life Force (Salamander) except for you three other schmoes on the podcast. And Rob should import the Salamander Collection for the PSP and buy a PSP to prove his love. And then go for the Twin Galaxies record in one of the Salamander games that no one else ever plays.

Also, the GBA Player alone justifies keeping the Gamecube. It scales nicely to widescreen, too.

Still listening!

@anandxxx

Still listening? What a treat!

I don't get it. You don't sound like you do on Monster Hunter or how you sound in person. Weird.
Right, I'm definitely not from the south. Why do I sound that way? Everyone thinks I sound "wrong." Pfft.

Yeah! I don't know how those guys haven't played that game. BLOWS my mind.
I own Stinger, but I haven't played it nearly as much as Life Force. I don't like it that much.
Isn't there like fruits and stuff you shoot? And you're in a bubble ship with boxing gloves or something?
I'm not getting a stinky PSP! I want Salamander ReBirrrrth. Or Life Force ReBirth.
And Final Fantasy IV: The After Years..

--DUDE. TwinGalaxies is now membership locked! I can't even browse the boards anymore! Dagnabbit!!

Membership locked?? Crazy. Why? Can't you just pretend to be Billy Mitchell virtually, as well as in real life? Steal his identity! It's the best one!

Yeah, somehow my voice loses any trace of masculine qualities over the phone or internets. That's what I tell myself, anyway.

Everyone sounds like a robot in Monster Hunter.

Stinger is so much better than Life Force, dude... The first boss is a giant watermelon slice who spits seeds at you! C'mon!! And the bell system is so awesome! Play Detana Twinbee!

Salamander Rebirth is canceled forever because you didn't buy Castlevania Rebirth.

@anandxxx

I thought we were having a Detana Twinbee tournament with random pairings!
Now that the ChuyMaster is in (have you been back to the thread lately?), we should have at least 6! Dig it!

I sound like a Robot in Monster Hunter?

I looked up Salamander ReBirth, and the first result was a post at that other site with a bunch of our own there from '09. Sad.
How has there not been any news since then?!

Oh, yeah. Tournament action! Let's totally make up double-elimination heats, and such! We should download a tournament generator, just to be awesomer.

Salamander never gets its due...

Don't I sound like a robot in MH? Soon, you'll be able to hear my cavernous yawns in person!

@anandxxx

Everyone is going to fall asleep at 1am..except for me. I'm going to be up until 6am, every night.
Its going to be a scream.

Are there ANY night owls? Gosh, I hope so.
What other fun stuff can we bring? You know, besides Ultimate Alliance 2..
Do you want to be Iron Man? Colossus? MOON KNIGHT?

Circadian clock. Rewire it.

I stay up late sometimes. But then I crash at 7PM.

Moon Knight is awesome. But MUA2 is horrible.

@anandxxx

Its only horrible because I wasn't playing with you.
When we align our powers, and the game yells "NEW AVENGERS!!" you know whats going to happen.

Haha, you better not fall asleep at 7! Rewire YOUR clock!!

Its vacation! With the NW Dudes! And custom T-shirts!

The NYC trip is still in 5 months and already I feel like a third wheel.

I can't believe the amount of crap I'm getting for not having played Life Force. I never owned an NES, people! And Life Force came out on the VC right as the shmup care cup had overflowed and inundated the basement!

But hey, gift it to me and I swear I'll play it...

Hey, everyone's welcome to join the party! We're about inclusion, not exclusion. As long as you play Monster Hunter, that is.

@Mr_Mustache
I don't have a clock. I have the most irregular schedule ever. The other day, I fell asleep at 8PM and woke up at 3 in the morning. WTFFFF.

@Pandareus

You're not a 3rd wheel, you are the transmission. You're making it go!

@anandxxx

You're welcome to fall asleep at 8pm and wake up at 3am in NYC.
I'll hang out with 3rd wheel Pandareus during your slumber, and then you can tag him out at 3am. Partayyyy.

NEW AVENGERS!!!!

You know, in car terms, a third wheel is pretty important. It provides stability! Otherwise, you're just a motorcycle.

Haha, New Avengers. I'm a West Coast Avengers man, myself.

Not really.

So I downloaded Life Force. You guys can't say I don't listen to your recommendations...

Except it may be the last time I do so, because I really regret it already. I never liked Gradius much, and I guess this game is better, but barely. Same annoying "gotta upgrade the speed a thousand times before you can do anything" upgrade system, except now with bonus walls that appear over you! Add to that boulder-spewing volcanoes that are a bitch to get past and you get a sad panda(reus).

...there are hundreds of other games I could have picked instead...

Haha. I contemplated getting it just to shut these fools up! Glad you were the guinea pig

I'll admit, Gradius is a series I've never had much experience with. I was always an R-Type guy. I still may have to give this game a shot soon though.

With the Pac-Man champs heading to this meetup, I fully expect to see you guys play some Pac-Man Vs.

@Pandareus

Ugh. What are you talking about?
Bring your Wii with you, and we will team up. It'll be awesome.
I'll beat it, guaranteed.
You'll be like "Man, you're so good, and you showed me so much. I was wrong about Life Force."

@Peppy-le-Fox

He's a whiner. And you're more of a man than he is. You'll enjoy it.

@PogueSquadron

Who are the Pac-Man Champs?!
