So, it's the reverse of Bit Trip BEAT. You control the paddle on the right side, and bounce back the circle beats that come your way. And this time you have to avoid the square beats, similar to VOID. Hmm...
It's basically a sequel to BEAT, and you're either down with that concept or not. A part of me would have liked to see something new, and another part of me, if I got my preferred sequel, would want RUNNER 2... but BEAT is my second favorite BIT.TRIP so I don't mind some more.
I definitely like RUNNER more than BEAT, but unless they added more moves I feel like RUNNER already did everything it could. BEAT had a ton of untapped potential, and FLUX looks like it's going to, well, tap into it.
BEAT is my favourite in the series, but even so I'm disappointed that FLUX is so similar. Unless there is a lot that was not shown in the trailer, I won't be picking it up day one. Plus, it's likely to cost 800 points based on the new pricing scheme, when BEAT cost 600 points.
@Pandareus What exactly, besides the false-beats which were in VOID?
I haven't played VOID, so those anti-beats are new to me.
I think it's unfair to completely dismiss FLUX for now, I mean obviously Gaijin Games has learned a LOT in the past two years and will definitely improve over what they did in BEAT.
For FATE I definitely prefer the 8-minute levels since I'm nowhere near as good at it as I am BEAT or VOID. For BEAT I like the long levels. VOID's checkpoints made it too easy to beat, but they handled high scores really well. I'm kind of afraid that FLUX's checkpoints will make it too easy, but considering Neuse can't even stay in META mode for more than a few seconds the difficulty should be fine.
I would have preferred them a little more broken up in BEAT and CORE. Growth in BEAT was an absolute pain in the rear (it took me nearly a week of solid gaming sessions to conquer it), as was Control in CORE (and that was only the second level). I've beaten all of the games except for FATE (something which I hope to remedy this week), and I think I prefer the shorter levels, if only to save my sanity.
With that said, I've enjoyed every offering. It's challenging by design, not because of bad controls. Plus I generally get lost in the music. That makes them more enjoyable.
