Like I said, I won't be able to play the game 'til Christmas, but, I couldn't care less how the reviews are coming in.
A) It's been impossible to trust game reviews for some time now. Game journalism is so corrupt (just like the rest of journalism), everyone has a slant and an agenda and I never feel like "helping the consumer make a purchase decision" is the most import part of those motivations =(
B) This is a game that appears to be built on fun, colorful, likable, endearing, charismatic, cute, cool, and stylish characters, settings, and scenarios. That alone puts it in a genre that used to be many of our favorite yet practically no longer exists. So, this game could control like a herd of cats and look like a CDI nightmare and I bet I'd still find it more captivating than the next triple-A shooter or indie art project.
Soooo confused. Pretty sure one of my buddies at GameStop told me he was upping me to the Limited Edition, and now it APPEARS that it isn't being sold anywhere other than the NIS site. Does anyone know otherwise? I don't know what to do.
Well, as it turns out, the "Limited Edition" that the GameStop guy mentioned to me was Xenoblade X. He confirmed that to me today, which I went "yeah, I thought there was a chance it was a different game.." Now, do I REALLY want this Limited Edition, or do I only want it because I thought I was "supposed' to be getting it already? I really don't know, Peter, do you? What say you, Grant?
The hardcover book sounds pretty rad, but again, money is short and I don't even know much about the game itself. Someone suggested to me that I get it..so I'm getting it, which is VERY rare for me. Usually I see a game, or hear about a game, and I go "yeah, I want that," all on my own. And rarely I'm "wrong." This one, I feel like I'm completely blind.
Oh really? Thats weird.. No goodies for me, it seems. OH WELLLLLL.
I got the game today (doing a game entry right now for Wii U, and then for Wii), and I got excited when I saw ACTUAL INSTRUCTIONS inside. But then you read them, despite feeling thick, and there is NO substantive information inside, for either the Wii or Wii U versions. What the heck, guys!
I played the Wii version for about an hour, and it's pretty fun. Point at stuff and press B to zoom toward it, press A for attacks (usually a Sonic-style spin attack if you hold A, sometimes you also get a gun you can tap A to rapid-fire). Levels are pretty big, with plenty of landmass to check out, although you'll only find 2D-style bonus rooms or little collectable medals (not sure if these actually buy/earn you anything). Otherwise there's usually a pretty straightforward rush-path to the goal, though sometimes you need to stop and deactivate some traps or kill some enemies to progress.
The camera can be a bit of a hassle, as you turn it by putting the IR reticle in the sides/corners of the screen. An option to use the nunchuk for this would be nice. But it rarely gets in the way that much.
EDIT: Ah, I guess we can start a post-release thread from the database.
