Plants vs Zombies came out at retail for the DS today, but wait!

Unless I'm not reading this right, there is a DSiware version coming with all of the extra features of the retail version, plus another extra mode. And it's obviously going to be cheaper.

DSi owners can get down on the DSiWare version, which PopCap says is coming in the next several weeks. It will have the four bonus modes of the DS version plus one more called Zombie Trap.

Personally I am not buying another version of that game as I found it to be quite overrated in the first place, but for those with DSi's planning to get the game, I thought you'd like the warning.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

Wait, what? Is this DSi version a DSiWare download or a totally separate retail game?

Either way...why would they do that?

I'm reading it as the DSiWare mode only has the four bonus modes + new mode, and not the core adventure, survival and puzzle modes. I could be wrong but I don't think they would announce a cheaper release of a bigger game before even letting the game sell at its current price?

@Zero

I think they don't care. They probably expect two completely different kinds of people to buy either version: the people who do not buy DSiware, and the 3 people who do.

There is always a perceived fairness issue though. It's tough to go pay $20 for something when you know others can get it for $5 or $10. And yeah I know it's probably cheap on iPhone and such by now but we're talking the same platform here.

@Zero

That's the thing, though: Popcap is looking to sell the retail version to people who don't know you can get it for $5-$10. You know, the casual masses who don't read gaming sites and message boards.

But hey, I will acknowledge that it's possible the DSiware version is not the full game.

I have it on my iPod Touch. It's really fun (though I only play it now and then)...Not sure I would say the game is really worth more than $10. Thanks for giving people the heads up.

Sounds too complicated. I'll pass...
