Some Chinese production-line worker swiped a unit from the line... pics and video ensue. Looks pretty good! What do you all think? What do you think is going to happen to the poor bastard if he's discovered? Do you think this means they'll have an early March launch or not? FinkDaddy like...

first source -- true source

I really like how they did the hinge on this thing. I know I'm an old DS Fat user and all but having the solid long hinge will prevent what happened to my current one where a small piece broke off. This is a sexy machine and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

NEW PICS!!! A dissection!

I intentionally made them 200px wide for design but click on them or visit the site to see bigger versions.

Is that a tiny battery? Seems like a small capacity...

Find more pics like these on some dude's facebook, found here.

I don't know how long this will last... I feel like Iwata is calling up Mark Zuckerberg this second with a bitch-fit...

Interesting juxtaposition.

I don't really mind how it looks,I would have liked them to change up the design a little bit more though.The D pad seems ok where it is to me,I doubt id be spending too long using it at any time any way.

So this 3DS is useless, eh? Why on earth would this guy openly show off that he has it??? Cripes, even Jimmy Fallon got to see more out of the 3DS! If he's reverse engineering it for a competitor Nintendo will be doomed. DOOOOOOOOMED!

I don't have anything to complain about except the rumored price.

New pics! Updated from some Japanese facebook page... which was posted from somewhere else I guess. This time, a dissection!

Yeah, I'm waiting for nerds to tell me what any of this means. And apparently the nerds are complaining that they need bigger pictures to find out what it means.

Yup, that's what I was thinking, lol.

@Het_Nkik

The nerds should be able to figure it out without the need of bigger pictures! Nerds today, sheesh.

It means that IGN's info is wrong and people were flipping out over the specs for nothing. Of course, I knew that from the beginning, but now we have proof.

To really answer your question though, I don't see any BC hardware. That means that the DS and DSi are being emulated by the 3DS. It's not possible for the 3DS to do it completely through software (it's not powerful enough), so my guess is that the CPU is emulating it, and it's using a software layer to ensure compatibility with the binaries.

@Simbabbad

???

What do you mean (up or down)? Are you asking me if them being wrong is a good or bad thing? Honest question, I'm really not sure what you're asking.

If you're asking me if it's a good or bad thing that they're wrong, then I would say that it's not really determinable at this point. I was given specs by my sources, and can't disclose them, but I will say that my information on the specs never matched with IGN's even when they first publicized it.

In general, I can say that the system is more technically competent than what IGN had people to believe (they probably just had faulty sources, it happens), but the proficiency of the hardware's specs remains to be officially confirmed, so I'm going to have to withhold my comments on that.

@Simbabbad

Really? I think this forum will be pretty lively at least until a few months after the launch of the 3DS. Actually, then there's GDC and E3. Yeah, there's going to be a lot of activity here for 2011.

EDIT:

There is still a possibility that my sources could be wrong too, so that's why I'm saying that we don't really know for sure if it was an overestimation or underestimation. I have full confidence in my sources, but that isn't a 100% guarantee.

Of course, if we consider the supposition, then yes, IGN underestimated the hardware.

Wow, this old thread was before Zero hosted images on the site... it's funny how the thread is completely worthless now. The pics are down. The video is down. The link to the FB album works but ah well. It's fun to remember the speculation.
