RUMOR: House of the Dead: Overkill 2 is coming.

One of the Wii's standout shooters – and certainly its most explicit – could be due a revival as reports hit that House of the Dead: Overkill 2 is in development.

Launched at the start of 2009, the original House of the Dead: Overkill was a tongue-in-cheek take on SEGA's long-running on-rails series that channelled the spirit of classic exploitation flicks, creating a game that's still near-unique on Nintendo's console.

Now Nintendolife is reporting that a sequel is in the works and is heading for release in the middle of 2011. Perhaps SEGA and developer Headstrong Games are looking to steal the sweary crown from Mafia II, a game that recently outdid House of the Dead: Overkill in the profanity stakes.

At the time of writing there was no-one available for comment at SEGA.

Reported by IGN.

The first game was a fun rail-shooter that I feel did justice to the arcade games of old. (even if the profanity was turned up to 11) I'm not sure I really want yet ANOTHER game in this genre for Wii, but... what say you?

I completely forgot about this. I've never played Overkill, and honestly I think I would prefer typing over light-gun shooting, so I'm considering getting this. It's half-off on Steam at the moment

Heh. Thought that this is what the teaser would turn out to be... shame it took them so long to give it this treatment. Typing of the Dead was pretty awesome on Dreamcast.

Looks like a great $5 impulse buy in some future Steam sale.

@carlosrox Ha ha man the original post is from like 3 years ago, the rumour was probably for a quick follow-up, and that is probably long dead now if it existed.

I just bumped it to talk about The Typing of the Dead Overkill. I have a weird obsession with The Typing of the Dead, it seems like the coolest thing ever to me, and I want to get it on my Dreamcast someday, but it is kind of expensive to get the keyboard + game...
