Woah, could the 3DS be more powerful than the Wii?!?

That's what Craig suggests in this feature.

How powerful is the 3DS?
Nintendo has not revealed any specs for the 3DS system, but expect it to well surpass the Nintendo DS in visual and processor capabilities. To provide stereoscopic 3D effects the system must have the ability to render each game field twice, one for each of the player's eyes, a technique that will require significant horsepower to produce.

Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that far exceed the Nintendo Wii and bring the device with abilities that are close to HD consoles such as PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

According to several developer sources, the 3DS device is not using the NVIDIA Tegra mobile chipset, a rumor that's been floating around since 2009.

Crazy if true.

Hah. So 3DS games will probably look a lot better than Wii games? Crazy...

Very good sign that the next-gen console should actually have tech that is worth a damn.

Well, considering the PS3 and 360 don't have tech that's worth a damn, why would the next generation of consoles? Antiquated crap, every single time. And Sony STILL had the audacity to charge $600 for the PS3 and it's hilariously weak parts - and made it hard to develop games for, no less.

Upon further consultation, I've decide to retract my previous statements in this thread, sorry.

Well, there was a reason I retracted it. Repeating what I said defeats the purpose of the retraction. I'll leave it at that.

I'm not trying to be an ass, but I'd rather correct an issue than deal with serious consequences later.

Should I retract my question to you?

Nah, that's not necessary. I'm not trying to make it look like nothing ever happened, and more importantly, I'm not implying that I no longer support my previous statements (because I still do), but I consulted someone who then told me that I should not have those kinds of statements on record on any forum, and I agreed, and decided to retract them.

I doubt this is true. It would be abnormal for Nintendo to have a handheld on the market more powerful than their console. If true, it likely means the Super Wii is going to be right around the corner.

On a personal note, I hope this is not true because the 3DS would have to cost an arm and a leg. I am all for specs of GCN-equivalence and a low price of entry.

Without going into detail, I can say that the bolded is not true. The technological roadmap for mobile devices/handhelds is completely different from their home console counterparts, and price for power really isn't an issue for Nintendo in this regard.

Anyone have any insight on the feasibility of this in regards to heat and battery life?

I won't say anything specifically about the 3DS, but battery life is of utmost priority for them. Temperature conditioning, not so much.

@casper884

I must be misunderstanding this, because I think the 360 proved that temperature conditioning should be everyone's priority, and even moreso in a handheld.

Perhaps Casper means that they don't have a problem controlling the temperature because they already solved it.

Temperature conditioning isn't much of a problem if you don't suck at making your hardware.

This is very true, and you use slightly better...you know...stuff. Spend just a wee bit extra and you find it goes a long way.
