When you learn more about the business world/stocks/etc., you find that it's less about instinct and a Rain Man-esque understanding of the movement of the market and more about numbers that are output by some sort of computer algorithm.

That was made by a statistician without a business degree.

But you need the degree if you want people to take you seriously when you turn those numbers into words.

And also to make contacts for insider trading.

They'll just compare its sales to Resident Evil 5's, or something.

Well... who is "they"? I mean, these numbers are a success for Monster Hunter no doubt and Capcom/Nintendo have to be pretty happy about them.

But the message board Wii haters well... a game making #11 on the NDP and selling "only" 125k its first 10 days isn't going to change their minds. It's sort of a success "for a Monster Hunter" game, not really some epic core game success overall.

(Until you add in Japanese sales, but to that they will just say BUT TEH PSP VERSIONS SOLD WAY MORE!!!!)

Who cares about "message board Wii haters" anyway? I prefer Negative World as a sanctuary from them, not a place to discuss them.

Monster Hunter Tri seems to be a success, if not a mind blowing one. Hopefully this translates to future Monster Hunters on Nintendo consoles.

Monsters aren't hardcore.

I think at this point nothing will change producer's minds for Wii. I can't imagine anyone STARTED production of a big Wii title at this point.

I thought more about editorialists and "analysts" and mostly, producers. Producers in particular matter a lot.
Oh, how awkward... I was referring to the Jews.

The funny thing is that Sony and Microsoft think they're gonna make Nintendo sweat later this year. HAHA.....HAHAHAHAHA

Good to see that you guys are keeping the discussions nice and healthy. When I get back I already see that I'm going to have a huge negativeworld 'backlog' of discussions to follow up on. So don't be surprised if you see "last post by casper884" by every thread for at least a couple of pages in, lol.

Gotta go though. Protocol has been very tight, and I had to go through great lengths to make this post without a trace (I shouldn't even be posting here, considering where I am right now). Talk to you guys soon!

What, are you in Miyamoto's bedroom or something?

Haha, don't worry, I was (sometimes still am) notorious for going days without posting, and then bombing the entire first page. Used to be my calling card here.

@casper884

Good to hear from ya. Hope you're having a blast!

So MH3 was number 11 on the list. Alright, using VGChartz (I know...) to compare MH sales in the first month:

Monster Hunter 3 (Wii): 183,144 (through 3 weeks)
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite (PSP/ Released Mar 08): 99,555
Monster Hunter Freedom 2 (PSP/ Released Aug 07): 74,145
Monster Hunter Freedom (PSP/ Released May 06): 55,024

And that's it? Apparently MH1 or 2 weren't even released in the States. So, obviously take into account that the Wii has a much larger userbase than the PSP. Still though, through 3 weeks, MH3 has already nearly doubled the closest opening month for any previous MH game, in America. I'm sure Capcom USA has to be pretty happy with that.

Nope. To them it's just another test to see if the Wii is truly 'worthy' of their 'hardcore gaming' support'.
