Nintendo Co., Ltd. (Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch "Nintendo 3DS"(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.
"Nintendo 3DS"(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed "Nintendo DS series", whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.
We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.
Man oh man I'd so be on board with a powerful handheld.... One of the reasons I don't appreciate handhelds is the feeling that I'm getting an experience that could be better on a more powerful console and that the screen sizes imo could be bigger (like ipad but still smaller).
And imagine what this would spell for Wii 2. HD and 3D? Not too far fetched!!

HD 3D confirmed? Wasn't the DS a stepping stone for the Wii? Hopefully this would also be a stepping stone for Wii2. Holy fuck OMG if true. Geez my hype just went up to 9000!!!!! Yes, 9000.

The PR says this 3DS will be the replacement to the DS. That leads me to believe that it's not just a DSi with slapped on 3D, but rather new and improved hardware.
If it's true, I'll wait for NIntendo to release the 3DS Lite, or some other future incarnation.

... I probably won't be that patient. I'm still using my old ass Lite with a broken hinge and messed up touchscreen. The fact that this is backwards compatible, alone, makes me want it ASAP.
No I've never played a 3D game before. I haven't even been to the movies recently to see a 3D film, although I've seen a few in Florida theme parks using the polarized light method.
Interesting rumor that the industry chatter about this at GDC included it being "due out in 2010 in at least one territory". If true this is crazy!
Will probably launch with 3D Luigi's Mansion sequel and a re-release of the Wind Waker with touch controls.
A dude on GAF is saying he heard at GDC the screens are near seamless when open, higher res, and Nvidia something with graphics similar to GCN.

Um this is still fishy to me. Why announce it like this? And why one week before April Fool's? The more hyped I get the more scared I get. If this thing delivers Nintendo is set for the next 10 years. There is no way the Wii 2 could deliver anything less amazing than this. This shit better be true and it better be good.
I saw Farcry 2 very quickly with 3D glasses last year, looked quite good. I also heard Metro 2033 in 3D is a fucking holy sight to behold.
