If you like music, platforming, and games like Super Mario, BIT.TRIP RUNNER, etc. then In Retrospect is for you! I'm not going to lie, the soundtrack is pretty sick: In Retrospect OST (Select Songs)
Some more info: -An action platformer about reflecting on your past that syncs the gameplay and music, with the player’s choices affecting the story and certain game elements as well. -Contains a story mode as well as 40+ challenge stages, complete with full leaderboards. -Inspired by indie games such as Crypt of the Necrodancer, Just Shapes & Beats, Wandersong, the BIT.TRIP series and Thomas Was Alone. -A fairly short game (roughly 1-2 hours for the story mode + additional time for challenge stages) that does not require a significant time commitment.
Also one other small note, In Retrospect has NW-specific leaderboard functionality as well. Just go into "community" (or whatever I call it) and use the code:
nw999
You will then be able to toggle between global leaderboards and NW-specific leaderboards. Let's see who the NW champion of In Retrospect is!
EDIT: Where are my manners? Congratulations on the relase, Zero! Great job pulling this off!
Gonna have to grab a controller to play this later. I hate platforming on a keyboard. Didn't stop me from playing a few chapters and suck at a challenge, though!
Not sure if this is on my end or not, but my audio settings don't seem to take. I try to set music and effects to 5, but when I press escape to go back to the previous menu everything resets.
Also: Yeah, this soundtrack fucking rips. Capitalism and Such. Goddamn.
@r_hjort Hey thanks for the feedback, I just realized how utterly unclear the settings there are. You actually have to go down to the bottom of the settings page to get the confirmation notice, escape is quitting out of setting the settings.
...which, IN RETROSPECT, makes no sense! I set it up for the controls, where it made more a little more sense because you set every control, and then essentially copied it over, but on the other options it doesn't make much sense. What can I say, I was doing a million things at once, some stuff I basically just got working and tried a few times then forgot about! I'll make a note of this though, maybe make it more clear in a future update.
@Zero Ooooh, I see! Thanks for clearing that up for me! I didn't think to go down there since I didn't see any command or anything, but like you say, it makes more sense in the controls menu, and I would have realized how it worked if I had gone into that menu first. Don't worry about it.
Short comment before I go to bed, but I just gotta say I like the addition of picking memories that defined the era of your life you're currently playing through. That's a really neat touch. Not sure if that's old news to everyone here, but it wasn't in the last build I played. Good job on that.
@r_hjort To be honest that came about because everyone was like "it's so hard to actually get the collectibles you want in the levels because it's so chaotic!" so I was like welp I'll just add some in between levels stuff that is easy to pick.
...someone still complained about how short the time limit to pick is though, lol. I wanted it to feel like real life, you don't always get infinite time to make decisions, you just have to make them and live with it sometimes!

It is true, its a little short of a time limit. Im a fast reader so it doesnt bother me though.
@Zero I have to say it is kind of hard to plan out what kind of pick-up you want to focus on as you go through the stages (although perhaps that could be seen as representing the real life difficulty to actually influence the path of your own life), so the choices balance that out a bit, which is nice. I like the time limit, too. But maybe @Stan McStanly has a point about being a fast reader; maybe the dyslexics among us have a harder time with it.
BTW if you do pick up In Retrospect on Steam and have time, please put up a Steam review! I've heard that Steam doesn't even put you into their algorithms until you have at least 10 reviews...
BTW I had some test users in the leaderboards and didn't remove them for launch because I didn't want it to look like NO ONE WAS PLAYING. But now that the leaderboards have filled in a bit I'll probably remove them soon. So you'll jump up a few spots in the leaderboards!
I'm also thinking about displaying the leaderboards here on NW. I actually store them on a different server (inretrospectgame.com) but it shouldn't be too hard to connect to it and display them here. Then you won't even have to leave NW to see if you're still on top!
Congrats on the release! Picked up a copy, hope it helps with the sales side. :) (For us that's been rough on Steam, because there's just so much on there. I think our games have sold like 10 copies total... :/ But you keep on keeping on.) And you seemed to have promoted it a lot over the past few years so hopefully that translates into purchases!
