Right? It really upsets me that Metroid isn't a more popular franchise. It has every ingredient that should make it a hit series, but it just isn't. Anybody have a theory as to why this is? Because Super Metroid came so late in the SNES life cycle and there wasn't a Metroid game on N64? There's just not as much nostalgia? Baffle me.
I'm not really sure what other character to include in Smash from the series though.
I strongly agreed about Metroid prior to Smash Ultimate. But now that Ridley is in (and fantastic) and Dark Samus fills in the echo slot, I'm pretty satisfied with Metroid reps. What I'm not satisfied with is where Zelda is right now...
Ganondorf's a nerd. He's been in three mainline Zelda games--OoT, TWW and TP--and he pretty much sits around sneering in all of them.
Ganon is the Gallant to Ganondorf's Goofus. He does everything right. He looks awesome and he shows up in way more Zelda games:
-Zelda 1 (-Zelda 2 on the Game Over screen) -A Link to the Past (-Link's Awakening as a shadow boss) -Ocarina of Time -Oracle of Seasons -Oracle of Ages (-The Wind Waker in puppet form) -Twilight Princess -Four Swords Adventures -A Link Between Worlds -Breath of the Wild
In short, Ganon appears in ALL THE BEST ZELDAS. He's been around since 1986. He can shoot fire bats and wield a trident and teleport. He can finally be the one to outweigh Bowser. He's bad and blue and super iconic!
And he's as different from Ganondorf as ZSS is to Samus. Zelda needs more reps already so I don't know why the second-most well-known villain from the NES era hasn't been represented yet~
Ganon for FIGHTER'S PASS. Ganon for PRESIDENT. Ganon Ganon Ganon. Ganondorf is non-canonical. Ganon is canon. Ganon probably owns a cannon.
Totally agree. Ganon is definitely missing from the roster. Pig beast beats King Dork of Darkness any day... The main Zelda villain deserves better than being an echo fighter.
It's because there hasn't been a good Metroid game since 2007. The Prime games MADE that series way more popular beyond the 2D iterations that came before. Also, Metroid Prime Hunters was full of amazing characters that need to be expanded upon. There were 6 other bounty hunters in that game, all equals to Samus.
Sylux, a deadly sharpshooter who harbors a strong hatred for the Federation and Samus by association Weavel, a cybernetic Space Pirate warrior who was injured in a battle with Samus Trace, a feared member of the Kriken Empire Kanden, a lab experiment and a supersoldier that was invincible Noxus, a bounty hunter of the proud and reclusive Vhozon race Spire, the last of the silicon-based Diamonts.
You could PLAY as them, which made that game extra awesome. They each had their own HUD and "transformation" form like Samus's ball. They also had their own quirks to them. For example, Trace could zoom in and snipe whereas Samus cannot.
They would be absolutely amazing characters to have in Smash, but since they only appeared in one Metroid game there aren't too many fans of the Metroid series who know about them.
Yeah I mean Hunters was ok but most of those characters were completely unmemorable. Not anyone I'd think deserves Smash rep. If we're talking Metroid I'd think the obvious next one would be a Chozo.
No way, the hunters from Hunters are all awesome! I don't think that any one of them stands out so much that they deserve to be a Smash fighter, but everyone thought Sylux was gonna make a big comeback after the secret ending in Metroid Prime 3.
@TriforceBun - Well that pitch for the character has won me over. It'd probably have to transform for the first time at a pretty low percentage though to keep the unlimited flight of the first form in check.
Doom is an industry changing gaming masterpiece right up there with the original Super Mario Bros. Both are still just as fun to play today as the day they were released. Aside from its revolutionary mechanics that defined an entire genre, it's also full of great visuals and music that would be rad in Smash. Every game in the series since the original has been really damn good and available across many Nintendo consoles too!
Doom is incredible. It's one of my favorite series. I love that shit like I love Mario and Zelda. Sometimes you just have to be happy for people getting their dream character even if it's not your cup of tea, yaknawmean?
Yeah, I know DOOM is a big deal. I just don't know if the CHARACTER is really anything to be excited about. There isn't even really a character anyway. He doesn't even have a face or an actual name, haha. But if "DOOM GUY" got in, sure, I'd be fine with it and happy for those that are happy it happened. I'm not gonna be mad about it.
Yeah, the character isn't as much of an attraction as everything else he would bring. A cool moveset could surely be made for him, and the level and music would be rad.
