The top 20 most played games on Switch since launch for North America

I actually read the news on the Switch news service for once and it had a list of the top 20 most played games on Switch since launch. The ranking is based on "the cumulative number of hours that North American players have spent in-game".

Now if only Nintendo would give us a clear, exact list of how much we have played each of our own games like we had back on the... wait, which was the last one to do that? 3DS?

20. Rocket League
19. Disgaea 5 Complete
18. FIFA 18
17. 1-2-Switch
16. Pokken Tournament DX
15. Sonic Mania
14. LEGO CITY Undercover
13. Fire Emblem Warriors
12. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 for Nintendo Switch
11. NBA 2K18
10. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+
9. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
8. ARMS
7. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
6. Stardew Valley
5. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition
4. Splatoon 2
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2. Super Mario Odyssey

The Wii U gives exact times too Andrew. So 3DS/Wii U were the last to do it. The Switch is a departure from the norm they set.

As for the games...

17. 1-2-Switch
15. Sonic Mania
8. ARMS
7. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
6. Stardew Valley
4. Splatoon 2
3. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
2. Super Mario Odyssey
1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

I'm surprised I've only participated in 9 of the 20. 45% is pretty small considering my love of the system. Glad to see so many games I'm not supporting being supported by others.

@DrFinkelstein If I recall correctly the Wii U doesn't give you an overall list though, just by month? So there is no way at a glance to just see every game and all of the time you have spent overall on them in a single list like the 3DS had?

Here is my participation, even less...

20. Rocket League
17. 1-2-Switch
15. Sonic Mania
4. Splatoon 2
2. Super Mario Odyssey
1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

@Zero

Partially incorrect. I tested it before I posted and again now.

When you start the Daily Log on the Wii U, it opens up the app. On the Television is a bit Monthly Log. Right now mine says Titles Played 2. Play Time 3:08. Tells me I played one of those for an hour and 47 minutes today. However on the gamepad is the day itself. Showing me that forma.8 was the game I played. If I hit left, it shows me that I played it for a bit yesterday too. If I touch the title itself in any of those windows, it pops up a window showing that I have played Forma.8 seven times and for a total of 6 hours and 48 minutes.

If I hit the X button, it takes me to a monthly window on the gamepad which shows that I also played Elliot Quest for 1:11 this month. A quick glance of last month and pressing on the Xenoblade Chronicles X icon shows I played that game for 69 hours and 32 minutes over 50 sessions.

If I hit the X button again, it reverts back. So while there is no easy list for all games like the 3DS, you still can simply see any game's total time played at the press of an icon.

Weird, never even knew that was a thing. Nintendo needs to make this stuff more clear!

Either way I want a list.

Wow, 12-ish of those games are from 3rd parties! Even a couple of indies. Good to see Switch owners buying (and playing!) those kinds of games. It's not surprising to see the top games are from Nintendo themselves, but hey! Minecraft players have really been putting in the hours...it's the 5th most-played game! Not too shabby.

Only *slightly* surprised ULTRA Street Fighter II didn't chart. Every time I go to play that game online, I have no trouble finding people to throw down with. So clearly people are playing it. And Switch owners aren't shying away from fighting games either, seeing as ARMS, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 and Pokkén Tournament DX all made the list. Oh well.

I'm a little surprised to see 1-2-Swicth on the list, since everyone was poo-pooing it and it hasn't appeared to be selling very well.

That's pretty crazy that Super Mario Odyssey became number two after just a couple of months. If it could have released sooner, it probably would have been number one.

@Mop it up It's still a Nintendo first party so it probably sold ok comparatively, and it has been around since day 1 so it has an advantage over all of the stuff that released later in the year. I mean, I don't even think it is particularly great but A. I own it because it was the only real Nintendo multiplayer game at launch and B. my copy has probably gotten at least 5-10 hours or so of play.

It's heartwarming to see Stardew Valley so high up there. Seems like that game hit big and scratched an itch a lot of people had. It's good to see an indie team hit a home run like that.
