And some other platforms (PS4, Xbox One.) But most importantly, SWITCH!

This... listen up. Valkyria Chronicles is pretty much one of my favorite games ever. It's like a fully 3D Advance Wars that is turn-based but also has real-time action during each turn. So awesome. The PSP sequel was alright but felt stripped down to fit on a handheld (and the 3rd game, also on PSP, never made it to the West) and then they made some weird crappy action game and I've been giving up hope for it to ever return to form on a console...

But now it is back on consoles! And not a side game, a real Valkyria Chronicles game! On a Nintendo console, to boot! HECK YEAH. Sega already said it is coming to the West too. In 2018.

Get pumped!

I played the first two missions of the demo, will try to finish it this weekend. It's more Valkyria Chronicles, which is definitely a good thing! A part of me wishes that there were more new classes to play with (as far as I can tell it is the same tank + 5 classes as the original and then 1 new one, grenadier) but it feels nice and I felt so happy playing it last night, on a Nintendo platform no less! It also doesn't have the only 6 characters on small maps limitation that VC 2 had on PSP (it seems to be 10 in this game, and the maps seem more like the original game's size.) Basically as long as they do the maps right and have some unique scenarios thrown in there sometimes like the original game had, it should be a sweet sequel.

I do hope there are a few more surprises though, it's way too early to judge but it feels like a pretty safe sequel. On the other hand maybe that is what we need after that weird real-time game that apparently sucked.

Finished the demo.

First off, it's a pretty meaty demo! It has 3 story missions (including the story bits in between them), 2 skirmishes (basically just "destroy all enemies" type things on maps you have already played, used to get XP and such) and 1 demo exclusive (for some reason) bonus mission, not to mention some of the in-between mission stuff where you can buy / upgrade weapons, train troops, etc. All in all it took about 3 hours for me?

I'd say it has definitely left me excited for the full game. Yeah it would have been interesting to see more new units in the game but they did a lot with just the first few missions to mix things up and keep it interesting, so I'm eagerly anticipating more. Feels like a proper sequel to the original game, which is basically one of my favorite games ever.

With that said I always felt like the enemy AI in the original game was not quite as good as it could have been and I was hoping they fixed it, but it feels pretty similar. At times the enemies will just run straight into a situation where they are clearly going to get destroyed before they can do anything, and they often have you in a bind and would easily be able to kill one of your troops but they just... don't press it for some reason.

Still, overall the AI is serviceable, and it's a pretty sweet demo. Try it out!

Oh and progress from the demo carries over, which is good, because I wouldn't want to have to play the first 3 hours of the game again.
