Nintendo Announces The 'new Nintendo 2DS XL' for July 2017
News reported by

Well, this came out of nowhere. I might consider buying one perhaps… my B-Button is shot on my 3DS XL and I wouldn't mind having something that can play some games again. If a repair would cost more, it'd be worth it.

Releases: July 2017
MSRP: $149.99

I'm sure the profits are much higher when you replace the lenticular screen with normal screens.
Also, I don't think I saw any external cameras in the video? Cutting out both of those would be a nice cost-saving move.

@nate38 I would think that would be offset by not having to produce another product line, not that I'm any expert. The screens are also larger than the normal NEW 3DS so I'm not so sure this thing is really less costly, all things considered.

Hey, I love handhelds, but the Switch is handheld, too!

It's hard to go back, man.

I feel like Nintendo are just parodying themselves at this point.

If they wanted to have a model at the $150 price point, I don't see why the normal NEW 3DS can't fill it.
Don't be silly. That's only $100 with a game! Marked up to $500!

Looks really slick, but I can't justify this when I already own a 3DS and I could otherwise put that money on a Switch (which I can't justify because I own Zelda/MK8 on Wii U).

No doubt, but the 3DS is a better one.

It's a little more portable, but man...having instant 2P anywhere I go is a really cool feature of the Switch. And very conducive with the tabletop mode!

Plus, I love carrying the pieces separately and then assembling it when I play. It's like putting together a Voltron!

(More importantly, I can no longer handle the resolution of the 3DS screen.)

No built in PSP nub C-stick mod?

Yeah, that is a sweet feature on Switch! Agreed there.

But 3DS just crushes it when it comes to total amount of features, games and functionality. And that clamshell design makes it the *perfect* handheld device.

Switch may eventually catch up, but it won't be anytime soon.

Can't handle the 3DS resolution? Pfft. I still break out my brick Gameboy from time to time. Resolution ain't no thang. (Kinda literally, lulz)

The 2DS XL seems more compact than the 3DS XL is which is nice.

Game Boy holds up because of the art, the 3DS tries to display complex 3-D games like Xenolabde Chronicles at like 1/16th the resolution we're used to. It's a bit jarring.

Agreed! The design is really sleek

I'd argue that the smaller screen makes up for the lack of 'higher' resolution. Plus the stereoscopic 3D makes things look cooler.

The pixel art in Gameboy games are pretty baller, I have to admit. Good point there.

It helps that the 3DS is displaying 240p content on a 240p screen instead of trying to display it on a 4K tv.

Also true. There is something to be said about native resolution.

Totally gonna pick up a New Nintendo Two Dual Screen Extra Large so I can play some Super Smash Brothers for Nintendo Three Dual Screen.

Reading that comment is like looking at an Escher painting. It may be a perfectly legitimate sentence, but it feels fundamentally wrong.

Are you deliberately trying to break everyone's brain?

Looks Nice,

any world if they will all be made with IPS Screens or will be the standard lottery?

I was wondering that too, probably a standard TN, but also probably much nicer than the normal 2DS, which had a really milky looking washed-out panel IMO (and really the only reason I didn't get one for my collection because I liked the weird wedge design).

I'm definitely getting a New 2DS XL, it might be the last dual-screen handheld Nintendo ever makes, or a least for a while. Also it just looks slick, if the screen is nice it would be great for playing VC games on. Super Metroid? Hell yeah.

You make a good point there. Hmm. Seems I could be dropping more money into a new Nintendo handheld. Again.
