Nintendo Announces The 'new Nintendo 2DS XL' for July 2017
News reported by

Well, this came out of nowhere. I might consider buying one perhaps… my B-Button is shot on my 3DS XL and I wouldn't mind having something that can play some games again. If a repair would cost more, it'd be worth it.

Releases: July 2017
MSRP: $149.99

Why don't people just turn the 3D function off? Instant 2DS

@Smerd

I think part of it is Nintendo can manufacture these cheaper with 3D natively removed.

Actually looks nice, to be honest. I don't know how much better the 3D is in the new 3DS is versus the original models but if it wasn't a significant improvement I think this might actually be what I would've gone for.

I'm also a bit amused that after all that talk about how integral the 3D was, how one control stick was totally sufficient we end up with a model that got rid of both those things.

Also amusing: how many variations exist that you need to specify 'new Nintendo 2DS XL' Long way from Nintendo 3DS.

I still don't have a *new* 3ds, so I might get this.

I'm still using my original aqua blue model but want a new one because that one is getting gunky.

For $150, if I'm going to trade up my Ambassador to a New 3DS I'd just pay a little more and get the fancy 3D one. Looks neat though.

Actually looks cooler than expected. Glad the clamshell design is back, too.

I may consider getting it *just because* but I'm not a fan of the XL screens and I actually really like stereoscopic 3D.

Not sure if want.

Crazy. Nintendo remains as unpredictable as always. It looks nice, though. I like the blue buttons.

I could see getting one for my son this Christmas. He'll be 4 1/2 by then and he's been getting into Mario Kart lately. Maybe he'd be ready to try Super Mario by then. Or even find Nintendogs or something for him.

Regardless, it sure beats the original 2DS in design. Ugh.

Neat! Love the design, reminds me of the DS Lite, I wish they would have improved the c-stick though, or just take it off, either or!

But why are they announcing a new handheld iteration when they just released a brand new handhe... OH YEAH BECAUSE THEY AREN'T TREATING THE SWITCH AS THEIR HANDHELD LIKE I SAID HA HA HA HA I'M RIGHT AS ALWAYS.

@Zero
Eh, it's just hardware. (Please die, 3DS...)

Well they've already made a pretty sweet special edition...

(no word yet on western release)

@Zero Nintendo has a long and storied history of releasing revisions of their consoles and handhelds after they were already "replaced." Wii Mini, Game Boy Micro, SNS-101, NES-101... I don't necessarily believe that's the case with Switch and 3DS (fingers crossed) but the New 2DS XL is hardly proof that it's not.

Agreed! Death to the 3DS!

But long live the New 2DS XL in all it's normal-ass screen and beveled DS Lite-style design glory!

I feel like Nintendo are just parodying themselves at this point.

If they wanted to have a model at the $150 price point, I don't see why the normal NEW 3DS can't fill it.

@Mop it up
I'm sure the profits are much higher when you replace the lenticular screen with normal screens.
