It has been a long wait… patience has filled the Negative World forums up to the brink and finally… that anticipation… that calling… it has come back to the homeland…

The Negative World Euphonic podcast is back everybody! *kermitfreakout.gif* Did you miss us? I hope so because I hope you'll give this podcast variant a listen once more. We haven't had a new episode in nearly two years of the Negative World Euphonic and we're now back to including them when we can. This time we're back and bigger than ever! Each episode from here until otherwise noted will include seven songs from two themes, meaning we're fitting in four more songs per show! Well… that's not quite true… because we throw in a finale song as well! We just increased the podcast's music content by a whopping 50%!

This episode focuses on two distinct, somewhat opposite, themes. First up we have Dungeon themes to go through. A lot of what you might think shows up might not as we have a unique look at different dungeon themes throughout the gaming history! After that we tackle Air/Sky tracks. Float on through the show as we listen to an eclectic mix of air and sky themes.

After all is said and heard we finish it off with a final bonus track which Joe and I just HAD to end on. Is it a dungeon theme? Is it a sky song? You've got to listen to find out! (and also not just skip to the end) :P

What do you think of the songs picked for this episode? How do you feel when listening to these tracks? What moves you? What doesn't? Let us know!

You can comment on the music, the show, etc. on Negative World, Facebook or, Twitter.

Enjoy the show!

I did not expect my Crystal Chronicles song to get in here at all. For those curious, the area it's from is Mushroom Forest and isn't what most would look at as a dungeon. I always try to pick songs that fit the theme, but are not ones you would expect, which is why I chose this one.

I actually do know of Spelunker, but only because of it's similarities to another game that I adore which is Spelunky, and indie roguelike game that is absolutely fantastic. They share a similar premise of having to gather treasure, but play very differently from what I can tell.

My thoughts of Skyward Sword have change a lot over the years. A bit after the launch of the game I was very unhappy with it in the end, but only because of a few sections. Those sections soured my thoughts on the game for a while, and it wasn't til a few years back that I started to remember the good parts of the game. My main issues with the game though were mostly related to the pacing and the overworld.

Great podcast/euphonic as always. I really did miss these so it better not be another 2 year gap. One last thing I am curious about though is what songs each of you liked the most from the thread, that didn't make it into the euphonic?

Oh, neat! A couple of my suggestions made it in! w00t!

To your questions in the podcast...yes! Baten Kaitos is worth playing! Both games were two of my top RPGs of that generation. Don't be scared off by the "Card Battle" system. Yes, the battles use cards, but you won't have to learn something as "complicated" as something like Yu-Gi-Oh or even the Pokémon: The Trading Card Game. The cards you collect during the adventure more or less act like action icons. You use a sword card to attack with a sword, a magic card to cast magic, and item card to use items, etc. It's pretty simple, and actually fairly fast-paced. In a way, it actually kind of works the same way stickers do in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. Except there are actual RPG elements in Baten Kaitos, with leveling up and different stats and stuff. And oh man, the narrative is unlike anything I've played in a game before. They make good use out of the fact that you (the player) are not actually the main character, but his 'guardian spirit' or whatever. It's great stuff. Check it out for sure! (just...maybe use the option to turn off the voice acting in the first game. It's...not great. At all.)

Also, so glad that the NiGHTS song got in the podcast! Such a great tune. I'm a fan of the first game for sure, which the "Belltower/Growing Wings" song is originally from. The Journey of Dreams is a remake/remaster of the song in the Saturn original. Yes, I owned a Saturn. And the original NiGHTS: Into Dreams... game. Loved it. The Wii sequel is...not as good. Still fun, but the SEGA of the Wii era isn't the same SEGA from the Saturn era.

If you guys want, you can actually download a remake of the original NiGHTS on PS3 and 360. They updated the game with modern visuals and stuff, but there's also a "Saturn Mode" if you feel like going old-school. It's pretty cheap IIRC, so it may be worth your time if you're interested.

Finally, yes. My train of thought did go from NiGHTS to Rodea. Kind of a natural progression, I suppose.

Great work, fellas! Looking forward to the next Euphonic!

Listens to entire podcast.

Doesn't hear songs picked.

Throws podcast in trash can forever.

...just kidding, it was a sweet episode! My songs didn't really fit the theme outside of technicalities anyway.

We did almost pick Air Man's theme from Mega Man 2! It was a close debate prior to the show!

Glad you enjoyed it. More will be happening. I promise you that.

Listened to entire podcast.

Heard song was picked.

Created a gold record of podcast and framed it on the wall forever.

....just kidding .

Seriously though, I needed something to stop my attention from wandering (to the internet) whilst I was supposed to be working. So I figured, hey I got my headphones, I should listen to one of these wonderful podcasts Fink puts so much effort into. (I should actually go back and listen to the one I was actually on for, lol.)

Pleasantly surprised to get a mention. Australia represent!

Only finished half of it, had to head home when you guys got to the Sky section. But the dungeon half was impressive.

@Shadowlink
Yeah we got a lot of rep this time. Secretly I think it's because Ninsage is trying to bribe us to send him a koala.

I don't know what you're talking about. Frankly I'm insulted at your implicational, accusational tone! Just because I'm wearing my new "Koala Dad" tshirt doesn't mean I'm trying to bribe you for a koala. Like I would want something that cute and cuddly. So, very cute. Like little wise teddy bears that communicate their wisdom through hugs and snuggles. Preposterous.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go water my eucalyptus saplings.

Great podcast guys! Yes, I listen to these podcasts too, and thanks for the shout out. It's always a thrill! I usually get to these a little bit later, though, because with the music I really like to give myself the opportunity to be able to fully pay attention to the selections. As always, all the tracks are great, thanks to all those that made suggestions, and a big thanks to the best two hosts ever!

In hindsight, I kind of wish I would have suggested something from Skies of Arcadia....but oh well.
