The successor to Club Nintendo is finally here, and it seems like a solid improvement! The way it works is you can get three different types Coins through completing Missions.

Miitomo (blue) Coins are from using Miitomo. These apparently work as platinum coins as well.
Mushroom (platinum) Coins are from using My Nintendo itself regularly.
Star (gold) Coins are from purchasing eShop games.

(oddly, Gold seems to be more valuable than Platinum, which is why I'm wondering they didn't just go with Silver or something. But I digress)

You can then use your coinage for some choice rewards. Here's the full current list:

WII U DIGITAL:
Pikmin 3 Add-On Content: Battle Enemies! Stages 7-10 (20 Gold Points)
Metroid Fusion (Wii U) (60 Gold Points)
Super Punch-Out!! (Wii U) (70 Gold Points)
Super Mario 64 (Wii U) (90 Gold Points)
New Super Mario Bros. U Add-On Content: New Super Luigi U (90 Gold Points)

3DS DIGITAL:
Flipnote Studio 3D (Free!)
My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (1000 Platinum points) (new game!)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (3DS) (35 Gold Points)
WarioWare: Touched! (3DS) (1000 Platinum Points)

My Nintendo Theme 1: Mario (200 Platinum Points)
My Nintendo Theme 2: Donkey Kong (200 Platinum Points)

DIGITAL GAME DISCOUNTS:
15% discount on Super Mario 3D Land (450 Platinum Points)
15% discount on Animal Crossing: New Leaf (450 Platinum Points)
15% discount on The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (600 Platinum Points)
15% discount on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (750 Platinum Points)
15% discount on Yoshi's Woolly World (750 Platinum Points)

30% discount on Punch-Out!! (50 Gold Points)
30% discount on Ultimate NES Remix (70 Gold Points)
30% discount on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (100 Gold Points)
30% discount on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (100 Gold Points)
30% discount on Splatoon (140 Gold Points)

MIITOMO REWARDS:
Miitomo 1 game ticket (85 Platinum points)
Miitomo Mario Suit (250 Platinum points)
Miitomo 5 game tickets (420 Platinum points)
Miitomo 10 game tickets (250 Platinum points for one time only)

Lots of good stuff to offer, from discounts, VC games (including the first DS VC game on 3DS!), and even new software like Twilight Princess Picross!

I got 250 coins just from doing some basic stuff--signing into Miiverse and eShop (30 platinum apiece once a week), and linking my account to My Nintendo and Facebook. It's a solid starting point towards getting that sweet, sweet Picross game.

All in all, it seems like a good replacement. My only gripe--and it's kind of a biggie--is that it currently doesn't offer any reward for buying physical copies of games. Kinda stings.

Anyway, go nuts and get some Coins! What rewards do you have your eye on?

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

@Shadowlink

And what's the principle? What are you trying to accomplish by not ever, even temporarily and for a Nintendo perk, signing up with Twitter?

I think him and Mustache are deathly afraid of seeing pictures of food.

@DrFinkelstein

The principle is not supporting Twitter. Even in a such a limited format as signing up and ignoring it.

@VofEscaflowne

And it has nothing to do with food. Although that is symptomatic of the wider issues I have with the platform.

Honestly, we should be given the option of just adding people from our Nintendo ID friends list. The whole point is to interact with those people specifically after all. Other social media shouldn't be an entry barrier to that.

Upper left corner > Menu > Points History.

then just be sure to use any points within 6 months or whatever it is.

Thanks!

@Shadowlink

I don't see the 30 points for logging into my Nintendo each week under missions. Where is it?

@sirmastersephiroth

There's a coin lying about on the main screen. Click on that. It reappears every week, I've clicked it twice now.

Could be local time too, it's Monday here. Maybe check tomorrow.

What don't you like about Twitter? You're not yet answering my question. The principle behind not using Twitter is to not support it, but what is worth not supporting it? What has it done that you don't like?

To your point about Friend Codes on Nintendo IDs, that's true. I don't understand it. However, to make a point, Miitomo is about social interaction. It's a social network app more or less, but the Nintendo way. Having them insist you add your Facebook and Twitter friends makes sense. I think the amount of people who wouldn't have a social network account is small enough. Those who don't, the amount who won't make a quick one just to add your long-time friends, even smaller.

To each their own. I'm not going to lose sleep on this or anything but I just wish we could use Miitomo together.

Twitter is a non-intrusive, non-spamming, use as you wish, social network that's actually pretty cool when you use it right (i.e. follow the right folks that bring you a reading benefit). I just wish I understood why your principle is to never use it, even for a fleeting moment.

@sirmastersephiroth

You're welcome! I just wish it were easier to keep track of your six months.

@DrFinkelstein

I explained earlier, anyone I would *want* to interact with, I'd want to do it in a much different setting, not trading one 140 character one-liners over Twitter. And yes, I know all about the DM feature, but again, I can share stuff with you guys here or other friends/family via Skype. I don't need Twitter for that. (And outside of this site, most everyone in my circles has the same feelings towards Twitter as I do, and doesn't use it .)That basically covers the 'legitimate' uses of the platform.

The rest of it is basically celebrity garbage, inane political 'discussion' (usually boiled down to a thought bubble hashtag), and (apparently ) lunch pictures.

The platform holds absolutely no value for me, and I personally feel it's actually pretty detrimental to how we communicate as a society in general. That's not to say you guys obviously haven't found your own niche uses for it, that's great for you guys. But you have to admit, the majority of Twitter is absolute dross.

As far as Mitomo goes, I understand there *is* a workaround of sorts where you can add people via *their*friend lists. So in theory if I met someone from here face to face, and added them, I could then spread through their friends lists (and so on) like a virus

....Of course this is in theory. Living half a world away from most of you makes the practical side of that a little tricky.

@Shadowlink

The platform does hold value though. It's your main and easiest key into Miitomo. For better or worse. You don't actually have to issue a single tweet. Ever. And then once you have your friends on Miitomo, you can unfriend us all… and then delete the account even… and that's that. In the past.

There's actually a shit ton beyond celebrity garbage, political discussion and lunch. That's minimizing it to a very narrowed view but you have your right to that view. The premise of Twitter is to create your niche and find your personalized view. Perhaps a bit like Reddit that way.

But alas, I don't get paid by Twitter or nothin'. Glad I was able to utilize it as I have. Hope to see you on Miitomo some day! Maybe Nintendo will open things up once the NX is out. It'll surely use this platform (the My Nintendo platform).

Physical games aren't eligible, points expire after six months instead of two years, some rewards will be offered for only a short period of time, some of the points earning stuff requires doing social media garbage... I didn't think it possible, but this is significantly worse than Club Nintendo.

Yeah, totally. And I don't do anything 'mobile' either. Is this for me at all??

*sigh* Yeah im disappointed - At the rate I download titles, Ill get a decent prize in 5 years - no wait, points expire too quickly so scratch that

So I just paid the $1.50 upgrade fee for Donkey Kong Country (SNES) and got 10 gold pointsout of it. It seems that this would be the best value in points for money going right now. I'll probably upgrade the rest of my library too (N64 or SNES games, since NES games wouldn't qualify for points at their regular price).

I assume Nintendo's other upcoming apps will also be tied to the My Nintendo Coins. So, in theory, the more Nintendo Apps we download and play, the more coins we'll have, and the more stuff we can buy.

@anon_mastermind

Nice job finding a solid loophole! Didn't even consider this.

Hmm...gold points just got a lot more interesting. Upgrading 9 games would cost less than 14 bucks, but net you a full 90 gold points. If you're looking to get Luigi U, that's more than 6 dollars cheaper than it'd cost you outright (plus you've got more VC stuff to dink around in).

@Shadowlink

Had to look up the word dross.

The Internet is mostly dross, if we're being fair. We can single out Twitter (or any number of things) but... s'all dross, really.

I like Twitter because it's bite-sized and not overrun with friends/family who do nothing but post baby photos all day every day. It is certainly a poor tool for deep communication, since it was never designed for that. Of course, nearly every form of communication we use today outside of standing in front of the person we're talking to is inferior to standing in front of the person we're talking to. We live in a world of pretty lousy communication, under the veil of "inter-connectivity."

Good job on that loophole indeed!

The way I figure, WITHOUT social media claptrap (read: No friends )

- I can get +5 coins each day for swapping my wardrobe around
- I can get +5 coins for answering a few questions
- I can get +30 coins for signing into My Nintendo each week
- I can get +30 cons for signing into E-shop each week
- I can get +30 coins for signing into Miiverse each week

That works out to be 160 coins a week. So I can burn the coins I have on a discount for Woolly World, and still save for Zelda Picross in less than a couple of months.

Not terrible. I guess.

And if I *really* need coins in a pinch, I always have the Social Media Garbage Bonuses up my sleeve to be used whenever.

I was actually on the site and did the math. This is what it came down to for me. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm horrible at math:

-Change your Mii's clothes once in a day (daily) 5
-Give 3 answers in one day (daily) 5
-Get 5 hearts on your answers in one day (daily) 10
-Get 5 comments on your answers in one day (daily) 10
-Listen to your friends' answers 10 times in one day (daily) 5

That gives you a total of 35 coins per day. Times 7 days a week is 245 coins per week. Plus:
Sign in to Nintendo eShop (weekly) 30
Sign in to Miiverse (weekly) 30
Sign in to My Nintendo (weekly) 30

If you add these 90 coins to the 245 coins you get a weekly total of 335 coins per week. Of course, that depends on your friends actually giving you hearts and commenting on your answers. So, if we take those factors out and only focus on what you can do for certain, then you can get a solid total of 195 coins per week.

TLDR version: You can get from 195-335 coins weekly, depending on how active your friends are in hearting and commenting on your answers. And that's just from this app. I assume/hope that Nintendo's future apps are also tied to this currency system.

So in other words, you can get 90 per week without bothering with Miitomo, correct? Just by signing into eShop, Miiverse, and My Nintendo once a week. This means that in 12 weeks, you can get enough coins to nab a top prize (WarioWare or Zelda Picross) just from doing that (not counting the platinum stuff at the beginning like linking your Club Nintendo account, etc). Not too bad...

Hmmm, few days now and only 2 of my Facebook friends have downloaded this. Wonder if it will catch on. I had almost no interest when it was first announced, but now I love the concept. I didn't think we'd be so free to say what we want.

Man, earning these coins takes a while. For me, anyway. I still have over 300 coins left to collect before I am able to "afford" the Twilight Princess Picross game.

So, going off of anon_mastermind's suggestion, I finally transferred my Wii files over to my Wii U and then upgraded the 20-ish VC games I had for about $30. I now have 120 gold coins to play with and $18-ish bucks just burning a hole on my account.

I could buy 10 gold coins more worth of stuff and then download both Super Punch Out and Metroid Fusion.

Or

I could buy 20 gold coins more worth of stuff and get 30% off Splatoon, and then get 50 gold coins for buying Splatoon. (I think I'm figuring that right.) Which means I'd only have to buy 10 more coins worth of stuff to get Metroid Fusion.

Choices, choices. I think I'll do the first option. Won't be spending any money I haven't already spent.

Not working too hard on the Platinum coins at this point because there isn't a reward related to those that I want yet. Just accumlating and then hopefully when the rewards get switched (They doing it monthly, anyone know?) there will be a sweet discount for something I want.
