My Nintendo link

The successor to Club Nintendo is finally here, and it seems like a solid improvement! The way it works is you can get three different types Coins through completing Missions.

Miitomo (blue) Coins are from using Miitomo. These apparently work as platinum coins as well.
Mushroom (platinum) Coins are from using My Nintendo itself regularly.
Star (gold) Coins are from purchasing eShop games.

(oddly, Gold seems to be more valuable than Platinum, which is why I'm wondering they didn't just go with Silver or something. But I digress)

You can then use your coinage for some choice rewards. Here's the full current list:

WII U DIGITAL:
Pikmin 3 Add-On Content: Battle Enemies! Stages 7-10 (20 Gold Points)
Metroid Fusion (Wii U) (60 Gold Points)
Super Punch-Out!! (Wii U) (70 Gold Points)
Super Mario 64 (Wii U) (90 Gold Points)
New Super Mario Bros. U Add-On Content: New Super Luigi U (90 Gold Points)

3DS DIGITAL:
Flipnote Studio 3D (Free!)
My Nintendo Picross: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (1000 Platinum points) (new game!)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (3DS) (35 Gold Points)
WarioWare: Touched! (3DS) (1000 Platinum Points)

My Nintendo Theme 1: Mario (200 Platinum Points)
My Nintendo Theme 2: Donkey Kong (200 Platinum Points)

DIGITAL GAME DISCOUNTS:
15% discount on Super Mario 3D Land (450 Platinum Points)
15% discount on Animal Crossing: New Leaf (450 Platinum Points)
15% discount on The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (600 Platinum Points)
15% discount on The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (750 Platinum Points)
15% discount on Yoshi's Woolly World (750 Platinum Points)

30% discount on Punch-Out!! (50 Gold Points)
30% discount on Ultimate NES Remix (70 Gold Points)
30% discount on The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D (100 Gold Points)
30% discount on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker (100 Gold Points)
30% discount on Splatoon (140 Gold Points)

MIITOMO REWARDS:
Miitomo 1 game ticket (85 Platinum points)
Miitomo Mario Suit (250 Platinum points)
Miitomo 5 game tickets (420 Platinum points)
Miitomo 10 game tickets (250 Platinum points for one time only)

Lots of good stuff to offer, from discounts, VC games (including the first DS VC game on 3DS!), and even new software like Twilight Princess Picross!

I got 250 coins just from doing some basic stuff--signing into Miiverse and eShop (30 platinum apiece once a week), and linking my account to My Nintendo and Facebook. It's a solid starting point towards getting that sweet, sweet Picross game.

All in all, it seems like a good replacement. My only gripe--and it's kind of a biggie--is that it currently doesn't offer any reward for buying physical copies of games. Kinda stings.

Anyway, go nuts and get some Coins! What rewards do you have your eye on?

@Hinph

Big maybe. I'm considering it, though.

@DrFinkelstein

I really can't stand Facebook, but Twitter I don't mind as much. I just don't get it. Not my thing at all. My entire social network life exists on Negative World, and that's good enough for me. Heck, I've purged my friends list on Wii U and 3DS a few times because it doesn't really serve any purpose, especially since I have absolutely no desire to play games online.

But you could put up photos on Facebook since 2007. The same goes for Twitter, which just had less functionality than Facebook. It was just better for "organizing" with hashtags and shit. Isn't that basically all it actually brought to the table? I really, still to this day, don't get why Twitter even became its own thing. You can still do exactly what you do with Twitter on Facebook. Yet Facebook still has way more functionality and it's way less limited. Twitter seems to be mostly an advertising tool with a lot of celebrity circle jerking thrown in for good measure. Insta feels the same to me. Facebook feels much more personal. But then Twitter sort of did develop its own thing (again, huge for news, celeb shit, advertising, etc) and makes sense. It has a place. But then Instagram came around, did less once again (less than BOTH), and also became its own huge thing. What the fuck.

For the life of me I cannot understand the point of Instagram's existence. It's like each Social Media App became a lesser version than the last. Will the next big one be something where you can just add people and that's it?

This thing got to 3 million users (downloads I assume) in less than 12 hours? Yeah that doesn't sound too shabby.

Man, it's too late and I've wasted my whole night without even getting to really try Miimoto! ......I'm gonna try before bed. God it's probably gonna be a late one...

@carlosrox
If I had to guess, I'd assume it comes down to bite-sized bits of information. Same reason why headlines are typically short and attention-grabbing. In this day and age, a lot of people just want clear, punchy things to read, not big essays that encourage critical thinking and shades of gray. That's why normal political/religious discourse is all but impossible on Twitter because people will boil down their opponents to a single 140-character limit strawman (not that it's much better on Facebook, for that matter).

Everything is moving more and more towards smaller, digestible chunks of information. Look at how many list articles are out there! A lot of the nuance is gone.

Yeah, I got that too. Does anybody know the point of the Point Box? Why would I get it?

Oh, I see. You can't get anything else without it.

This stupid app is dangerous.

Screw you, Nintendo.

It's definitely hard to stay on top of things with the launch day. I expect it to quickly die out but with 69 friends so far on my list, there's a lot of answers to read!

Dammit, the gold points only count for downloadable games. And I only download digital-only and VC games... So I'll be spending just as much as everyone else, but getting less rewards. What the hell.

Physical games aren't eligible, points expire after six months instead of two years, some rewards will be offered for only a short period of time, some of the points earning stuff requires doing social media garbage... I didn't think it possible, but this is significantly worse than Club Nintendo.

Yeah, pretty much this. I'm okay with the social media and miitomo stuff, but not honoring physical purchases is a slap in the face. I don't think people who want or have to get physical copies of games will switch to digital just because of My Nintendo, so all this does is insult them.

K Miitomo is really cool. The Miifoto thing is pretty damn robust. I love that you can hear the Mii's voice. The little animations are so cute and charming. The questions are fun and the clothing/Mii looks great. Love the improved character design. Reminds me of Wind Waker Link.

It doesn't hurt that my Mii is freaking adorable.

Not that it means anything, but I was very surprised to see an old teacher of mine from Animation school with this thing. He doesn't appear to be the type to have this whatsoever. Probably just got it for shits and giggles but it's definitely interesting!

I think FINlos is the only NW person I've seen on thr app so far. There's a few others from FB but I only added one. Hopefully I can use this with my brothers. I mean, hopefully they'll take to it. I already made 2 Miifotos I thought were funny (more in jokes than anything). They definitely made me and my bros laugh.

I really like this thing. Let's see how long it holds my interest. Can't wait to get y'all on my list!

PS. Actual swearing Miis with spoken dialogue is awesome, especially because I've been a sucker for text to speech functionality for a long time.

@Hero_Of_Hyrule

That does suck, but to be somewhat fair, it is the direction of our modern world. Physical media just isn't going to last. Sorry. I understand, though, because I was once "Physical disc only!" as well. What made me change was that it's so darn convenient to have my cart-less library on the 3DS carried with me where ever I go. If the NX is indeed handheld + console, I'll probably go all-digital just for that reason. Of course, I buy less because I want to be SURE I don't mind having the game forever (instead of trading it in) so I guess it's a wash for Nintendo? Maybe? Dunno.

I'm going to wait to get Fire Emblem Fates when they release an e-Coupon for reward coins. That will probably happen, right? I'm betting on it.

That may be the future, but it is not the present. The idea of this program is to reward loyal Nintendo customers, and I am a loyal Nintendo customer who is not being rewarded by the program due to the exclusion of physical media.

At the end of the day, one person is being rewarded for spending $60 on a new game, while another is not.

I understand that Nintendo gets more money from downloads, but they are still making a profit regardless of which form of the game is bought. At the very least, they could just give people who buy physical versions a little less gold coins than those who buy digital.

I saw this floating around, it looks like physical purchases are not out of the question yet, they may still happen later on.

“Initially, the focus is going to be on digital,” Trinen says, “but we do have a lot of ideas for what roll out down the road for packaged goods or real world interactions. I think we’ll continue to look at My Nintendo and how we can grow that as a rewards program, so that it really is trying to encompass all the different touch points of how people come into contact with Nintendo products.”

So on the My Nintendo page, has everyone clicked their Mii a bunch of times yet (maybe 10 or 20 times)? They'll bust out a present, and then click the present a few times to get a few Platinum Coins. I'm guessing this is the secret that @TriforceBun mentioned back on page 1.

Maybe it gives us a clue about NX with the digital focus. One thing I'd add - not to sound like a broken record - but if Nintendo was going to put emphasis on digital then they should have made a console with more onboard memory than a damned USB flash drive. I barely purchase digital games and I'm out of space for updates, much less actual new games.

Can anyone help me link the Miitomo name to the Negative World user? Some of these suggested friends have huge mutual friend counts so it must be someone from here who I don't follow on Twitter. I'd love to follow them!

Farid - 16 mutual friends
Seth - 12 mutual friends (Het_nkik?)
Trey - 11 mutual friends
Jesse - 9 mutual friends
Steph2Def - 9 mutual friends
JerBer - 8 mutual friends
Kazza - 4 mutual friends
Nintendad - 4 mutual friends
Riss - 3 mutual friends

Also, I'm encouraging my girlfriend, EponaEatsCarrots, to get on here and befriend some of you. I hope you'll do it! She's not as connected to the community as I am to you all but she needs more friends on Miitomo. Plus you'll get to know each other better!

@cooliocuneo

Can't get it to work for me.
