A simple news story… Nintendo Account is now open for North American registration.

Sign up now and soon get access to the initial features. More are surely to come!

Nintendo Account is Nintendo's attempt to unify their platform which should hopefully lead to a future of cross-talking consoles, handhelds, online content, etc. My Nintendo, Nintendo's upcoming Club Nintendo replacement, should be requiring the sign up of a Nintendo Account so get going!

Edit: Now the Miitomo pre-registration has begun! You can do so by click on this link.

US only, at the link anyway.

Why not sign up for a (free) account and create your own content?
I thought that "My Nintendo" was the replacement for Club Nintendo. I'm still confused as to how all this stuff works.

@Mop it up

Maybe I'm confused too. Nintendo Account is the unified account. My Nintendo is probably the Club Nintendo replacement. I'll make the clarification in the OP.

YAY - done.
Looks very simple, but quick. A LOT quicker than Club Nintendo was.
Good start.

I signed up for Nintendo Account, though there doesn't seem to be anything to it yet. I don't think I'll bother linking my Google or Facebook (haven't used it in years) and I don't have Twitter.

And I'm still not sure what Miitomo actually is, so I'll wait on that.

Signed up first thing this morning! I can't wait to hear more details. :)

Rumor has it this will replace your Nintendo User ID thing, so if you want a certain name, it pays to get it now.

@J.K. Riki

What name though? Unless you register with your NNID, there's really no name.

Vof is right. The name for your Nintendo Account is not unique, and you can change it at any time.

If you pre-register for Miitomo, you get some platinum points for My Nintendo. Even if you don't plan to get the app, free points!

@Mop it up Sold!

Now that I've read the description, it sounds like it could be fun/cute. But we'll see.

Cool, I'm all signed up and ready to go. Should have a new mobile phone by March too.

@Mop it up

So that's what I did. I wondered why you guys were raving about this awesome smooth sign up experience. Mine was so 'smooth' I wasn't even sure what I'd actually signed up for. Somehow I figured that's not what you guys meant.

This was on Nintendo Australia's site culled from their Facebook feed:

You can now create a Nintendo Account using your NNID, social network accounts or email address. Register before the launch of Miitomo in March to receive bonus Platinum Points for the new My Nintendo rewards program, launching simultaneously with Miitomo!
Visit Miitomo.com to create your Nintendo Account!

So I clicked on that Miitomo link, clicked on the preregister option, then got directed to 'Create a Nintendo account and Preregister'.

Linked my NNID, plugged in my password and then...Preregistration complete? OK, I guess?

So did I sign up for Mitomo or Nintendo Account or both? I don't know. But there's nowhere I can sign into 'My Nintendo' as of yet...

I'm not sure I even care about Mitomo, I just saw the words Nintendo Account.

It would be really nice if Nintendo did some retroactive thing for digital games bought since Club Nintendo closed. I would be rolling in the points.

All signed up. Now time to see what all of this is about when Miitomo is out.

Yes, but can you change it to something someone else already has? (And if so, how are you supposed to find that person via search in a sea of Canonjs? I mean, I was seriously considering Canonj as my name, but thought "No, it's surely already taken!" So I went with JK Riki instead.)

I still haven't been able to sign up. It takes about 12 hours for the verification code to be sent, but as it's good for only an hour, it's no longer valid when it does.

Way to go Nintendo.
