IGN said:
Nintendo has announced that Tatsumi Kimishima will assume the role of President and Representative Director for the company.

Kimishima's appointment as the new head of Nintendo comes two months after the sudden death of former president Satoru Iwata from a cancerous bile duct growth. Iwata was 55.

Previously, Kimishima served as the chief financial officer of The Pokemon Company Inc. until 2001. After that, he became the first president of Pokemon USA until 2002 - it would eventually grow and be renamed as The Pokemon Company International. Kimishima replaced Minoru Arakawa as president for Nintendo of America in 2002. He was later succeeded by current president Reggie Fils-Aime in May 2006.

At that time, Kimishima became CEO and chairman of the board for NoA until he relinquished the position to Satoru Iwata in April 2013. Kimishima held a number of positions Nintendo including managing director, general manager of Corporate Analysis & Administration Division, and head of Human Resources Division.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

He seems like a guy who will steady the ship for a while until a more long term candidate can be found. A safe pair of hands.

That's not necessarily a bad thing.

Steady is good when so many new things are in motion (mobile, NX, the merging of both hardware and software divisions...)

Apparently he advised against the Wii U and predicted it would "fail".

They should have listened to him! Now with him in charge, it'll be interesting to see how the NX turns out. Not sure how much influence he'll have over that project at this point, but he could have something to say about how it will be marketed and what kind of software is built for it.

Never heard of him before, but he could be all right. I'm also hearing this is more of an interim gig, and they're get someone else in a year or two.

It was Shinya Takahashi that I was expecting to take the mantle. Although I've seen it mentionned on NeoGAF today that he's moving into Miyamoto's previous role.

Whether that means he'll be holding the creative side together when SM retires, or he's just taking more time before becoming President, I don't know. He's 10-15 years younger than Kimishima so he has time.

Why does Miyamoto really even need to retire anyway, like, ever? Hopefully he could stick around as an advisory role for as long as he could. It's obvious he loves/enjoys his work.

I mean, if he wants to, obviously, go for it. But I mean just age alone should never stop anyone.

“Nintendo Directs will continue, but we have no details to provide now on who will be featured or the topics that will be covered,” Nintendo confirmed to IGN.

So that's good news. I hope they revamp the format so that we are not "Directly" comparing it with Iwata's Directs and getting all the feels.

Gosh, that's harsh, I feel bad for Miyamoto, the Wii U has some awesome ideas and is a great piece of hardware for games, it just wasn't the right hardware at the right time for the right price, and of course the marketing was a huge fail, the name alone probably doomed it to failure, to this day it still confuses people.

On a personal note Wii U has become my second favorite Nintendo console after GCN, if it had Metroid if it would probably be my #1.
