@kriswright I take Vg Chartz with a huge grain of salt but they have it not too far off from Pikmin 2. On a platform where not much of anything is selling a ton, breaking a million would probably count as decent sales. But like I said, this is Miyamoto's baby. He won't let it die.

@ZeroI wonder how many copies Nintendo gave away to people during the Mario Kart 8 free game download promotion. I nabbed Pikmin 3 then, and kind of feel dirty about it.

@kriswright Pikmin can learn a lot from, dare I say, open world style games with much larger areas and a more connected feel between them. There is still a ton of room for improvement within the Pikmin franchise, I think that is what excites me most about today's new.

I was actually thinking Pikmin could be dropped, or we'd wait much longer for the next sequel. Pikmin 4 is quite a pleasant surprise. I'd say it's for NX (especially since he confirmed the game but not for Wii U) which would make more sense. Would the only same sequel of a series on Wii U be one of the more niche titles? That would feel like it's being sent out to die. Even stuff like Mario Maker won't sell as much as it could if it were on something like Wii, so what chance would a Pikmin 4 have so late in the console's life? Then again, who knows? Could be a late Wii U exclusive. If Wii U is included in this whole NX platform thing, maybe Wii U truly will see future support from Nintendo. Think of the other 2 using 360 and PS3 as sales safety nets. Regardless of how Wii U or NX sell, Wii U will still have the larger install base for some time.

I hope the white Pikmin are back and can dissolve metal by spitting acid like in Occupational Hazards, that was very cool.

@Infinitywave@TriforceBunI thought that was the Black Pikmin. It has a big long head, claws and a tail. Also it reproduces not via onion, but by planting seeds within the bodies of foes such as Bulborbs.

I'm pretty surprised to hear it but it's a pleasant surprise. Going to guess it's an early NX title, then... would be smarter to start that console out strong than to give the Wii U another swansong that even fewer people would buy than Pikmin 3. Hey, Nintendo... while you're continuing to support games that aren't massive hits, how about F-Zero, dammit?

Excellent. I wasn't expecting to hear this so soon, but I'm totally alright with more Pikmin.

So the "Pikmin team" was working on Pikmin 3 since Pikmin 2? Kind of hard to believe. And their new dedication to the franchise is somewhat puzzling, since it doesn't seem that P3 stormed the chart. But it's cool. Pikmin's cool. I should really knuckle down and finish them in order. I stalled at the end of the first entry, even though I was digging it.

@InfinitywaveThat would be awesome. I'd love to see white and purple Pikmin come back with enhanced abilities. I enjoyed commanding the new rock and winged Pikmin in their stead, but I was still bummed that they played such limited roles in Pikmin 3. What I want from Pikmin 4 is a single player that creatively integrates every main type of Pikmin into exploration and combat while also introducing at least one more type. Perhaps a type of nocturnal Pikmin that allows for nighttime exploration? There are so many possibilities that could come out of that.

Count me in for this. And I'm not really to concerned with which platform it arrives on.

After playing Pikmin 3 again the past couple days, I thought it would be nice if Nintendo did more to fix the dual analog controls on the gamepad. I love having the map and all the info in my hands because it makes it easier to order around other squads, but the actual aiming of the Pikmin is atrociously bad.. Using the Wiimote is still the best way to play on the TV, but the stylus mode is perfect for off screen play.

As much as I would like more games to extend the Wii U life, I hope this is for NX. If the rumors are true and it is a portable/console hybrid, I would love a game like Pikmin to play on to go and bring home to the TV.

I don't see this as a portable. They tried Pikmin on the either the DS or maybe it was the 3DS, but they said having that many small things on a small screen just didn't work. Sure, with a higher resolution, it would clear it up a bit, but this is for a console. WiiU's last hurrah.

I was a bit surprised to hear they are working on this, but glad to hear it since I always worry about Nintendo's lesser series disappearing. I think how they're making this game will determine on what system it lands. If they are mostly reusing Pikmin 3 assets, then I could see it as a 2016 Wii U game because it will have quicker turnaround and a lower budget. But if they're making something more new, it'll be for the succeeding system.
