Pretty solid Direct. A new Fire Emblem game is always welcome and Splatoon looks better than ever. I'm really looking forward to that game.

Also, Xenoblade Chronicles X. Can't wait.

Man, that initial Fire Emblem trailer was kind of a tease. You get that cool opening video, then it goes to that cell shaded look, and then it ends up just being same old handheld Fire Emblem.

Lots of good stuff (games), along with some scary stuff (business practices).

Still, Nintendo platforms continue to hold a monopoly on "games that I give a shit about". As usual, I wanted pretty much everything they showed. And I can't think of five PS4/Xbone games that I'd even care to play. A ingrained bias? Perhaps. Or maybe Nintendo's the only company still making games for hardcore gamers!

Also, Wii VC, but still no N64 VC?? WTFFFFF. Let me play Mario Kart 64 with four wireless controllers, already!

@Jargon
I'm excited for the game, but I'll admit I was let down for a moment when all that build up led to a standard 3DS Fire Emblem.

Also, what's with Super Mario Galaxy 2 being released before Super Mario Galaxy? Could it mean they're porting Super Mario Galaxy to new 3DS!?

@Anand
It's not really Wii VC though, just downloadable Wii games. None of the VC features are included.

I like the look of the new Fire Emblem. The pre-rendered video and gameplay footage give a strong medieval east vibe. It's a nice change for the series that seems like it will fit well. I'm loving how it looks so far. It reminds me of Sacred Stones, where it takes an existing engine and uses it to create a sequel that goes off in a new direction while using the familiar as a foundation. I'm feeling very optimistic about this one.

I don't feel like the core of Fire Emblem needs much changing. I'm happy with the core being the same, while new titles focus on variations or smaller scale risks. Such as PoR introducing the Laguz and a story about prejudice; Sacred Stones introducing new monster enemies; Genealogy of the Holy War giving characters unique abilities; New Mystery of the Emblem serving as a remake and a direct sequel; Awakening allowing you to play with eugenics. I can see why someone wanting large changes to the series being disappointed, but I'm pretty happy with how the series has gone.

I was curious how IS would follow up the mainstream success of Awakening, and I'm glad that they've used that goodwill to take the series in a new aesthetic (and possibly thematic) direction.

Step 1. Buy MK64 on Wii VC.
Step 2. Obtain 4 Wavebirds.
Step 3. Find 3 friends .

In case people are in the GREAT UNITED OF STATES, NEED the Majora's Mask 3DS, and have shit friends like myself who constantly disappoint

Just got mine at 6:20pm CST

----

Good to know on the 32GB thing. I tried a 128GB card on my 3DS but could never get it to work, even after converting it to the fat. But it works fine in my camera so all was not lost. Just need to check and see how full my current card is...

Just heard about this, now. And just now watching it.

New Fire Emblem is always welcome, though 3DS already pretty much has the definitive Fire Emblem game on it. I could have stood to have IS work on something else. I'm not sure I need two Fire Emblem games on the 3DS.

Puzzle and Dragons appears to have the same gameplay as a Doctor Who puzzle game I have on iOS. I really got addicted to that for a bit last Christmas. It's fun, but the sort of thing I'd play on iOS rather than 3DS. I'm sure it'll be a better game, though.

Kirby - "Cheat with Amiibo!" Seems cheap, but I gotta admit I'd have loved that as a kid.

Still no Palutena Amiibo. Bastards. (Lucina looks cool!)

Super Mario amiibos. Redundant! Hey assholes, rerelease the rare amiibos you've already made before doubling up the characters everyone can already find.

"If you're going to use your Smash Bros amiibo in Mario Party, you must erase that Smash Bros amiibo's data." Ok, I hate this amiibo stuff again.

Splatoon! My favorite announcement in 2014 is still looking awesome!
-Glad to see they're allowing customizability.
-I like the term "Inklings".
-Lobster wearing a loofa is my new favorite Nintendo character.
-Seriously, you guys better not just play this for a week and then give up on it. This is the multiplayer Nintendo game I've been a-waiting for since the announcement of the Wii.

Majora's Mask pack. I can play as Tingle. I wanted to play as Tingle in Wind Waker HD, guys. Bring back the Tingle Tuner, then we can talk about being excited to see Tingle.

X - Still have no feelings about this. One of these days I'll get around to the original, then I'm sure I'll be excited.

New Nintendo 3DS - No AC Adapter? That's... stupid. Some cool features on here, but I'm going to stick with my XL for now.

Steam - Fire Emblem Characters can join with amiibo! Hooray! Too bad nobody has them except that one guy with a box full of them. Seriously, rerelease those amiibos, guys. Good. They listened to me, just now, and announced that they would. Ok, I'm less grumpy about it than before.

IronFall - looks like the game I really wanted on a Nintendo system in 2005. Now, I'm meh. But best of luck to everyone.

Majora's Mask 3D - That's probably how I'll eventually play Majora's Mask. Not next month, though. Sometime down the pike.

Overall, mostly good. I mean, it's clear Nintendo's basically going it alone at this point, but their announcements are pretty solid. If they would fix the amiibo scarcity problem, I could feel a lot more excited about the push they're doing in that direction.

I'm not going to track down three more Wavebirds!

Or two more friends!

Yes, that was horseshit.

What's this about deleting data on Amiibos then? So if I had Mario on Smash, and used the same Mario in Mario Party 10, the Smash Mario data would be deleted and he'd be back to level 1 in Smash? Pretty dumb if true. Hyrule Warriors seems to work fine with Amiibos without deleting data in them.

I kind of agree with kris about FE. Awakening is such a solid, beefy game, it's almost too good for me to want a sequel right now. I'd be perfectly fine having that be the only FE game on the system because it's got so much play value. At the same time, I'm sure I'd enjoy a new FE at this point too.

The Amiibos have really limited data, something like 1kb or something. So anytime you need to "save" something to it, it's done. Hyrule Warriors just reads them and gives you things. Smash and it looks like Mario Party create/save something to them.

@missypissy i think it can handle the limit of fat32 which I believe is 2TB. I think you can throw whatever size in there and it wont be an issue. I am gonna get a 64gb one, I currently have a 32gb one.

So...wait. I have a 128GB SD card in my 3DS now. Can I get a 128GB micro-SD card for the *NEW* 3DS and be fine?

I just looked on Amazon and a 32 GB Micro SD card is less than $20, I'll probably get one of those.

Yea, Hyrule Warriors doesn't saving anything to the amiibo, it just reads it. Mario Party 10 will save some kind of item to it (like the 5 dice thing they showed) that you can bring around and that will require you to delete your Smash data.

I originally thought they'd tie the amiibos to an online account and then use the toys to log in and pull the data from the account on the database. Yeah, you could implement something like that without the amiibos, but this would make it super quick and would basically pay for the cost of storage with the price of the toy. I'd have loved to have been able to go to a local tournament, scan my amiibo in, and then play with my customized Palutena. And one of the advantages to doing it that way is that you don't have to use the local storage for data - all the data would be in the cloud and you'd never have to make room on the actual amiibo.

Anyway, someone take that idea and go out and make a billion dollars.

Was anyone else kind of irked about the use of Amiibos in Kirby, Code Steam and Mario Party? I just wrote a post defending Amiibos and not having to be required play games, but I liked the Kirby upgrades as well as the Fire Emblem gang appearing in Code Steam. Now I actually do feel like I need to buy the damned toys. I already have Kirby, so I really need Ike and Marth I guess. OH and Toad! OMG! It's happening! Where is the AA meeting this week. Amiibos Anonymous. ;_;

@GameBoyGoul

I think it is getting worse. Having all 4 Fire Emblem character amiibos essentially costs you $50. If they would have instead made a Fire Emblem character pack or something it wouldn't be anywhere near that amount. Then it would basically be onboard DLC at this point. When you make that option seem preferable something is seriously wrong.
