January 8, 2015 It's rather chilly out today, so stay inside and play some excellent retro games and one great eShop game (Chariot). Check out all of this week's updates at noon eastern today at your favorite digital storefront.

I keep seeing Wipeout on these download update threads, and I get excited. Then immediately disappointed. Because I keep mistaking Wipeout for WipEout.
@Guillaume 2 is definitely my favorite. Some might argue for 3, but I think generally 2 is the one that is considered the best. After 3 they kind of go downhill a bit. Though they're all still good. Not that I ever finished 6.
Though I did like playing 5 on DS with the dual screens. Map system was better than the other versions, including 6.
@Zero I don't see anything wrong with the way it's been going. The voting was posted right on the 1st, and people were given at least a solid week to get their votes in. I don't think it should've been hurried, or had voting done in December.
I think the holiday period in general could be problematic.
Is there anything wrong with opening nominiations in January and then organizing a vote for later in the month/early February? It does let people have a chance to play the Christmas releases before voting too.
Shantae and Pirate's Curse on 3DS is on sale for $15 (25% off). I'm gonna hold out for a sale on the Wii U version or see if it's announced for Steam, but for people interested in the handheld version, pretty good deal.
I know this will sound typical coming from me....but honestly, the 3DS version is the one to get. WayForward didn't up-res their spritework at all when they put in on the console or PC. It looks all pixelated and weird on a huge TV. Not good. Plus, you miss out on some of the best stereoscopic 3D effects the handheld has had in a long time by not playing it on the portable. Plus, hey. Save some money right now.
I played the Wii U version of Shantae Pirate's Curse. It's quite beautiful, it doesn't look weird to me at all. I've been looking at big pixels on big screens for over 30 years.
They didn't up-res Mighty Switch Force! 2 either and it looks just fine. I bought it on Wii U. Doesn't bother me one bit. Plus portraits and text are HD. So there's that.
Well yeah, you basically took an unnecessary dig at the Wii U version. It doesn't look bad at all, but you wouldn't know that not having tried it for yourself.
If I like it enough, I might double-dip. But right now, one version is enough.
