First set of Amiibo figures to be released, prices confirmed
News reported by

Amiibo figures can now be preordered for $12.99 apiece. The first dozen are Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Yoshi, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Peach, and Marth.

In addition to being featured in Smash Bros Wii U + 3DS, these guys will also be used in Mario Kart 8, Captain Toad, Mario Party 10, and Yoshi's Wooly World.

Will you be picking any of them up? Which ones?

I'm not sure if I should bite or not... I still want to know what the hell these will do. Yoshi, Villager, Fox, and Kirby are my favorites of all those. I might pre-order Yoshi or Villager and maybe Fox because my girlfriend likes him so much as an Amiibo figure. But Nintendo... spill the freakin' beans!

Yeah I'd need to know what they do outside of Smash because the usage there doesn't interest me at all. Maybe it unlocks costumes for that respective character across all of your games? Maybe it unlocks some super secret time trial in Mario Kart? A new kart or something?

Man, $13 kind of a lot for something like this. It's hard for me to justify getting one when there is so much more I could buy for 13 or even 15 dollars. I wanted to wait for Little Mac, but then I remembered that Marth is one of the starting figures. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first piece of Fire Emblem non-game merchandise released in the west. And it's Marth!

I pre-ordered all of them off Amazon, when we find out more about them I will cancel the ones I would not be using.

I... preordered Samus. I said I wasn't interested in these things, but I have to see what they are all about I guess.

Were you able to pre order all of them or just some? I'm getting a note that some are not yet available for pre-order.

On Amazon I was able to preorder all 12.

Mario seems likely to be the most useful Amiibo - lots of games will connect to it. The ones I'd be more excited about owning, like a Shulk or Ness figure, probably wouldn't get much game implementation though.

The price is pretty good though, if the quality stays true to the display models. Just as collectables they're pretty desirable.

Man, this is the real deal. From the packaging to the figure itself, to the functionality, to the price, it's top notch all around. A few years ago I would have bought every single one, but I don't have as much room for these things any more. I'll probably grab Link and Wii Fit Trainer and maybe slowly add to my collection with time.

@Infinitywave Then again, the amiibos could very well be a way for Nintendo to put cameos and bonuses across their games. Maybe if you put the Link amiibo on when playing Mario Party, you gain access to a Zelda mini game or costume or something.

That's kind of how I see these things working. Get a Mario amiibo, and use it as a key to unlock bonuses throughout the games. Kind of like a season pass of bonus features of sorts. Of course this could upset people who would rather just pay $12 and get all of this stuff anyway, but that's how I'm seeing it right now.

I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't outlined how the amiibos will work with MK8 yet, since they just announced the DLC for it.

Samus is a guarantee, and I'll probably snag a few others.

I'll probably buy at least one of these figures. They'd look nice on a shelf, and I'm intrigued by their compatibility with those upcoming Wii U games. They could potentially break the rules of a game in compelling ways or at least unlock some appealing content.

I'll probably pickup Yoshi and Mario right now, but I want Villager. I am getting this error situation...

It's happening for a few of them, less obvious ones. I wish that Zero Suit Samus, Mega Man, or Toad (Captain variety would have been acceptable too) were available at the start.

I also don't know what the hell these will actually do. Nintendo really needs to get the word out. I feel like the pre-order business they could be making is going to be diminished because of this uncertainty.

Resurrecting this thread to post some recent amiibo news.

Nintendo has partnered with Loot Crate, offering a subscription that will guarantee delivery of 10 "pre-selected" amiibo.

A number of gaming sites are showing off high rez pics/ unboxing of the first wave of amiibo's that really show the level of detail on these figures.
(GameSpot, Kotaku, IGN)

At first I was bummed at some of the flaws and mass production changes that these figures have shown but then I went to Walmart last night and saw the display. I thought they'd be bigger for some reason! The amount of detail for their size is pretty nice and has gotten me more interested. At the very least I'll pick up Kirby mainly for Smash. I mean, how bad can you screw up a ball of plastic? I may wait for future production runs of the other characters.

I've decided to get Yoshi and Wii Fit Trainer, two of my mains in SSB4. That way, once I train them up, I can partner with them in multiplayer and it will be like having two (or three) of myself on the same team!

I'm just getting Peach and Link for now, followed by Luigi and Zelda with series 2. ZSS, Pac Man, Mega Man, and Palutena will likely round out my collection...maybe Olimar/Alph someday.

If they release Bowser Jr. at some point will they release all the Koopa Kids as well. Will their be a mega bundle with all 10 family members, including Bowser and momma Peach? Maybe a slave Toad as a bonus?

Bowser, King Dedede, and Rosalina for me. Maybe Mega Man. Shulk does look pretty cool. The first Xenoblade merchandise probably. I just wanna know their compatibility lists now!!

Mega Man looks so goooooood...I'm liking that he doesn't have any of the ugly clear plastic stuff most of the other characters have. Right now the only Amiibos I'd consider grabbing are Mega, Kirby, and Ike.
