Renegade Kid announces their latest game: Xeodrifter

Apparently this is an old-school, NES-style "Metroidvania" game that is making Jools very happy about making. They are even going so far as purposely using the NES's limited color palette to really drive home that old-school feel. Here are some early screens:

I guess Jools wasn't kidding when he tweeted a while back about how the next project will have "pixels 'n stuff." But he's super-happy about it!

Also, you can scan this QR code with your 3DS to get screenshots of the game in stereoscopic 3D on the handheld. Neat!

What say you, Negative World? Excited for Renegade Kid's latest project?

Wonder how long it will take for them to get it over to PAL territories. I'm still waiting for Mutant Mudds on the Wii U over here. Bah!
You're not missing much. Save your money.

Yeah, at this point I've waited too long and I don't expect to be buying it, even though I probably would if it had released closer to the US version. I like the 3DS game and would have liked to play it on a big screen, but these days I'd definitely rather get one of Curve's ports or some kick-ass VC game.

Still, the circumstances makes me wonder how long it will take for Xeodrifter to get over here.

Pff Mutant Mudds was great.

Unless you mean not missing much because it didn't add much to the 3DS version.

@Zero

I'm not high on the game because a lot of Nintendo-related media outlets painted it as the second coming of Mario on a smaller scale, but it was only good at best.

So I meant it in the sense that Mudds is worth skipping for now (especially since a sequel has been planned), but the Wii U content doesn't add much either from what I understand.

Mutant Mudds is a decent game, but it's also very over-hyped and over-rated. It was a very safe, typical, basic platforming game. I expect Xeodrifter to be the same. Nothing mind-blowing, but a safe/basic version of a tried and true formula.

You summed up my opinion on Mudds well, and that's about how I expect Xeodrifter to turn out. Not great, but good enough. Hence why I'll wait for a sale before I decide on whether or not to pick it up.

Ah, classic case of over-hype. That's too bad, since playing the game with no expectations made it end up being a very rewarding experience.

The 3DS version probably is the best version though, since it has all the extra content available as free DLC. Plus the stereoscopic 3D, which is great.
