Ran through Mega Man II last night: I've got this game practically committed to memory, even more so than the NES game. It's a lot more drab than I remember, and the music's a little more screechy. One thing I also noticed is it's very easy to just skip enemies altogether: sometimes they don't appear on screen or attack you until after you can pass right by them. Or maybe my muscle memory is just too pro.
Then I started Mega Man III for the first time, played through the first four robot masters. It definitely takes the production values up a notch, but it causes some serious slowdown constantly. Mega Man II was very plain-looking, but at least it ran steady. The music is mostly right out of the NES game, and actually doesn't lose much in the conversion. It does have some annoying obstacles, and I think maybe the controls are more loose and slippery than the first two GB games? But overall it's about what I expected so far, pretty good.
