Is Amazing Mirror that good? I love the Kirby games that let you have multiple attacks per ability (Super Star, Return to Dreamland), but I'm not as much a fan when Kirby only gets one attack per ability (Dreamland 2, 3, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby 64). Are the exploration elements good enough to make up for that? The music has always sounded really good.
Amazing Mirror is on my lower-tier of Kirby games. Some of the routes were fairly obscure, and became even moreso if you didn't have the map of the area in-game (some of which were difficult to find). That and the four Kirby mechanic was under-utilized and kind of pointless. There is a lot to explore and find, however, and it's an interesting take on the Metroidvania formula.
If you've got $7 lying around, you could waste it on far worse things (but if you're a 3DS Ambassador, just play it on there). It's a good, but not great, game. If you want to explore and not become utterly frustrated, just get Kirby Super Star and play The Great Cave Offensive.
@PogueSquadron I really like Amazing Mirror, and felt it was one of the most pleasant surprises among the Ambassador Games on the 3DS, but I think it was Mop_It_Up who didn't care much for the game, so I guess it depends. Personally I really like the sense of exploration, even though I never finished the game in part because of that; I played another game for a while, and then sort of forgot where I wanted to go and from where, and since the world is pretty big it felt like work getting back into the swing of things again.
Amazing Mirror was kind of a letdown for this Kirby fan. I prefer the multi-movesets myself but a Metroid-style Kirby sounded right up my alley (like Great Cave Offensive). However, the backtracking is heavier than one would expect and the world design as a whole was confusing and unintuitive. And the four Kirbies thing was pretty bizarre too. The Smash power was awesome at least.
Some of the abilities do have multiple attacks(sword, many of the miniboss abilities,) and some have been slightly tweaked (cutter lets you control your boomerang midflight, I think fire lets you angle up or down although annoyingly it wasn't merged with burning. Bomb and throw give you multiple ways to throw your bombs/enemies, and I hear throw can be used in some of the puzzles that require Kirby's inhale ability to move a block or something. And the Master ability may or may not have inspired Meta Knight in Brawl
A few of them actually affect how you move (cupid, parasol) missile is just plain awesome to use,Twister is neat but ultimately compared to missile completely blows, rock doesn't rock, spark fails to do anything shocking, and ice has just given us the cold shoulder
There is no multiplayer support in any GBA VC title, so I feel that makes Kirby and the Amazing Mirror a very odd choice to release. Like Zelda Four Swords, the game is designed and intended for multiplayer, and playing it in single feels like being in a bowling alley by yourself; it functions, but it's lonely and pointless.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land is the better GBA Kirby. Hopefully they'll release that sometime.
Getting WarioWare tonight and, hopefully, finally playing one of these GBA games on the Wii U. I was out if the country for a few days and I've been working ever since I got here.
Anand is a closet NASCAR fan. He was probably gonna whip out a Fireball Roberts reference next. (Sadly/ironically, died due to burns suffered weeks after his car got backed into a wall, flipped over, and burst into flames at the 600 mile race in Charlotte, 1964. Terrible.)
@anon_mastermind I remember it being decent enough. As part of the NES user-generated content series (also including Excitebike and... Wrecking Crew, maybe?), it had a track editor, too. But no two-player, as far as I remember, which definitely limited its appeal.
