ROUND THREE: Negative World March Madness (Mushroom Kingdom Region) RESULTS
April 08, 2014, 14:52:25

Game 1: In the first of two hotly contested showdowns, the classic 2D adventure The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past edged out Samus's first foray into 3D in Metroid Prime. A Zelda game is represented in the final games of 3 out of 4 regions.

Game 2: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, the successor to the winner above, was not able to follow in its footsteps to victory, falling in a tight battle to Monolith Soft's epic Xenoblade Chronicles. With Link's Awakening's defeat, no handheld titles are remaining in the contest.

I can live with this.

I think I've said this a few times before, but: Next one will be hell.

I meant to ask this earlier, but I'm curious: For people who voted Link's Awakening, have you played Xenoblade? I think Kriswright is the only one who commented on that. Since it was a limited release then I'm wondering if it had a higher concentration of "never played" or if Link's Awakening is really that strong of a game.

@Mop it up

I've played both (thought not as much of Xenoblade as I have Link's Awakening). I reviewed Link's Awakening and regard it highly. With that said, Xenoblade is still the better game in my opinion. Maybe it's because I prefer RPGs (particularly JRPGs) to any other genre, but I think it's a fantastic shot in the arm that the JRPG needed, whereas Link's Awakening was the next iteration in an already fantastic franchise.

I dunno how I'll vote next round though.

@Mop it up

I really like Xenoblade, although I haven't beaten it. I'm about 35 hours in.

That said, I feel like LA is one of the best games ever, personally, and I don't quite feel that with Xenoblade (kind of a 9/10 type of game to me, at the moment). I'd like to finish it one day as I've had a good time with it, but personally, I don't really love the battle system as much as most people here do. I think it might be my aversion to all things WRPG, or just that I feel it's mostly "spam your artes as they pop up." Still a great game, but it didn't quite hook me like LA did.
