Nintendo Announces National StreetPass Weekend in North America: Dec. 14, 15

Nintendo has announced a National StreetPass Weekend for December 14 and 15 in North America. For two days, all Nintendo Zones throughout Canada and the United States will communicate with each other (!), mixing up the StreetPasses they receive and redistributing them to other Nintendo Zones. This means players can receive passes from all over the continent, filling in their map and logging more players than would be possible otherwise.

That's... pretty cool!

To find a Nintendo Zone close to you, check out Nintendo’s official Nintendo Zone website.

Anyone who hasn't had luck could just make their own Nintendo Zone by changing their router's SSID to "attwifi." This is what I've been doing.

Isn't there more to it than that?

I generally get a few Streetpasses a day so I will try hard not to give in.

Yeah I don't think it's quite as simple as that. While it will give you a Nintendo Zone, I'm pretty sure it won't act as an actual relay station.

I gave in.... And got a full 10.
I think this will only work for this weekend though, due to the way it works.

@ploot

Whoa... really? I'm tempted now

EDIT: Doesn't seem to be doing anything for me though it still detects a Nintendo Zone. Hmm.

EDIT#2: I did get Wayne Brady. Pink pieces!

@ploot@VofEscaflowne Yup, it's that simple. I've gotten plenty of StreetPasses from it already. Try it out if you don't believe me.

Yeah, it works this weekend since all relay stations are communicating with each other over the Internet during StreetPass Weekend. Otherwise, it will only work as a regular relay station, so someone would have to walk by your place to StreetPass you with it. It can still work with others over the Internet if you change your wireless MAC address though, but that's more complicated.

You have to turn your security off. It'll work right away!

Hm, didn't get Wayne Brady, but I did get Tom from Nintendo. And some guy from Georgia. And someone else from Canada. The others were all from Michigan, though.

Not too shabby, I guess.

I got NOBODY! Whenever my girlfriend and I are out together, only one of us seems to ever streetpass with a certain person. In this case, she nabbed all the special non-Michigan folk from this promotion. I nabbed one dude from Michigan. Thing is, we were at Best Buy for over a half hour, there's no reason it couldn't have hit us both up.

Since it seems that any McDonalds I go to are the only Nintendo Zones that seem to actually have StreetPasses enabled (all other Nintendo Zones at other stores/ retailers get me nothing like I mentioned in previous posts), I stopped by two more yesterday and got 6 StreetPasses at each! (I have no idea why I seem to get a max of 6 every time, even during a normal relay StreetPass session). So here are where my guests came from (I'm in Texas):

First stop:
• Pennsylvania
• Ohio (4! Lots of Ohio people for some reason.)
• Washington

Second stop:
• California
• Georgia
• Kentucky
• Michigan
• Texas
• (The U.S. state for one guest was left blank)

Seemed like almost half of them had almost no puzzle pieces. (Darn those 3DS n00bs!)

@Mop it up

Huh, didn't know that. I wasn't home most of the weekend, so I wouldn't have been able to try it out...

@DrFinkelstein

That's strange, you both should've been getting those nationwide StreetPasses.

@roykoopa64

Relay stations give out a max of 6 StreetPasses per visit.

I stopped by 3 places, only one of which I could actually connect. Got nothing. Lame.

I didn't actually leave my house this weekend, lol

@anon_mastermind

Same with me, except for my work Christmas dinner. We had a snow storm on Saturday and into Sunday, so I didn't want to venture out and risk my life for a few StreetPasses.
