Nintendo Announces National StreetPass Weekend in North America: Dec. 14, 15

Nintendo has announced a National StreetPass Weekend for December 14 and 15 in North America. For two days, all Nintendo Zones throughout Canada and the United States will communicate with each other (!), mixing up the StreetPasses they receive and redistributing them to other Nintendo Zones. This means players can receive passes from all over the continent, filling in their map and logging more players than would be possible otherwise.

That's... pretty cool!

To find a Nintendo Zone close to you, check out Nintendo’s official Nintendo Zone website.

Just watch out for the Tasmanian Devil. He'll eat your 3DS before you can get the last of those pink puzzle pieces!

I think I've got 20 states represented, and a few foreign countries (Japan, Canadian territories, and Mexico). Fun to find someone from outside of your state!

I think it's hilarious that they just declared their own day. I actually get a ton of StreetPasses these days, with the Relay system. But the more StreetPasses, the better!

I hereby declare December 11 to be National Anand Day.

OK, it's time to hit those Nintendo Zones for that sweet StreetPass action!

Well, I can't right now, but hopefully I will be soon enough.

I wonder how this will actually work. Will you be able to stay in one Nintendo Zone and get wave after wave of StreetPasses?

@roykoopa64

Nintendo decided to start it yesterday apparently after the reception it received from people. I went to mine yesterday and got nothing Maybe I should have stayed a bit longer.

So wait, does this mean I'll definitely get a street pass at any Nintendo Zone? Because I normally never get any at the one closest to me.

@Jargon

It SHOULD but if you've never gotten any, have you checked to see if Nintendo Zone even works properly there?

@VofEscaflowne

Started yesterday, really?? Well, now, that's really strange, because yesterday I went to three different Nintendo Zones (all Starbucks) and got NOTHING (I even confirmed the presence of the Nintendo Zone with my 3DS).

But I know I get StreetPasses from Nintendo Zones because in the past week, I've been to three other Nintendo Zones (all McDonald's) and got 6 StreetPasses at one, then 6 at the next, and then 4.

So... I wonder what happened yesterday when I got no StreetPasses?

@VofEscaflowne

Yea, I've connected to Nintendo Zone. And I think one time I got one Streetpass from it.

Yeah I'm not sure really... but I know some people definitely got StreetPasses from all over. Maybe not every spot had it start yesterday? But that would be weird to just pick certain locations for it to have it.

I don't always get any at mine so I wasn't really surprised when I didn't get any. I always StreetPass the same regular 5 people which is kinda annoying

do you have to connect to Nintendo Zone? Or can you just have your 3DS in sleep mode and connect that way? There is a NZ near my work that I can always 'see' but never successfully connect to. I'm going to try Best Buy today.

@cooliocuneo

If it works properly, you should be able to keep your 3DS in sleep mode and still get StreetPasses. I've never had any luck at my local Future Shop store, but I can regularly get StreetPasses at the McDonalds in Walmart, so it makes me think that something isn't configured right at Future Shop.

Went to three Nintendo Zone locations. One wasn't even on and the other two gave me 0 Streetpasses. What a bummer.

I went to the Gamestop near my house and got 8 street passes from various areas of the country, Texas, California, etc., that was pretty cool I guess. However, for some reason it failed to steetpass the cute girl that works there which is about 9/10ths the reason I went...

Tried again today and I got 1 from Germany, 1 from the UK and the rest from the US These are the first I get outside of the Canada and the first one I got from the US made me laugh.

I went to two Nintendo Zones.

The first one was Home Depot. (I have no idea why they even have Nintendo Zone set up in Home Depot: how many 3DS owners would normally go there anyway???). The Nintendo Zone was up and running, but I got NO StreetPasses.

I then went to McDonald's. I saw the blue light on my XL, and it let me know that I got a special Nintendo guest come in as a StreetPass through the Nintendo Zone (Tom). So now I knew I got the StreetPasses!

In addition to Tom, I got 6 StreetPasses: California, Florida, Georgia (2), Quebec, and one from Belgium!

@Jargon

Yeah, I'm disappointed in Nintendo that apparently not all Nintendo Zones are equal and some are not even working. How can it be that every Starbucks I've been to has given me zero StreetPasses (through the relay), or that the Home Depot today did not have the nationwide Streetpass set-up, while just about every McDonalds I've been to has given me StreetPasses, both through the normal relay system and with today's nationwide set-up?

I'm sure there will be plenty of people disappointed this wekeend, depending on how good of a job Nintendo did in getting the word out for this event, and I hope they realize or are aware of the problems people are having.

Personally, it's a bit of a hassle for me to go out of my way to some of these locations, so if there's not even a guarantee I'm going to get a StreetPass anyway, I'm not going to bother in the future, unless they improve the whole Nintendo Zone thing. (I'm talking about places I normally don't go to in the first place).

Nintendo Zones are finicky suckers. Best of luck tomorrow, Jargs.

I got lucky today and received 19 Streetpasses. That includes my wife though.

Eleven from McDonalds (Tom showed up as soon as I welcomed my 10 visitors in), and eight from the McDonalds in Walmart while grocery shopping. Good stuff.

Went to the mall with my girlfriend today, I've lived here my whole life and I've never seen any malls so packed, ever. It was crazy! And I've been to malls on the day BEFORE Christmas before! So suffice to say I maxed out on 10 streetpasses while walking around, probably in the first few minutes, then we went to the food court to eat and I checked my streetpasses, all from the U.S. (Aside from one from "Aguilla" or something? Aguille? GOOGLE? Ahh, Anguilla, a small British-owned island country-ish thing slightly East of Puerto Rico, it seems. NO MAP DATA FOR IT IN THE MII PLAZA, WAY TO BE RACIST NINTENDO!) and then right after that we had to leave the mall so I only got one more! It kept picking up the Nintendo Zone there but it wouldn't let me connect, said it couldn't establish connection! :(

Was going to give up but realized there was a Starbucks near Nathalie's work when I dropped her off so I swung by and lo and behold, I got Streetpasses. Only "far off land" that I didn't already have was Iowa, but still cool.
