1 hour 50 minutes in and all I've been hearing the entire time is misinformation. :P Your rival is the character you didn't pick (i.e. if you picked boy, girl is your rival), the person you fight at the beginning isn't your rival, just one of your group of friends. Your rival picks the stronger one as usual.
Mega Evolution can in fact change types in certain cases. (Charizardite X turns Charizard into a Fire Dragon, instead of Flying Fire) This means they go beyond a simple gimmick into potential strategic meta matchup mixups. It's mostly for online battling, not necessary for the single player campaign, which you could beat with a Magikarp with your eyes closed.
The story absolutely picks up a lot, but it does drag on forever as a bunch of "LA LA LA NOTHING IS HAPPENING."
Totally agree with giving NPCs more life. Everyone in the Pokemon universe including the anime are all a bunch of mindless cardboard cutouts. Reminds me of Scooby Doo.
Also the feature regression is so terrible! In Gen 5 you could call up the professor and others to check how to evolve Pokemon in your party, your relationships with everyone, your Pokedex would stamp routes that you caught all the available Pokemon in, etc. THEN THEY TOOK TEN STEPS BACKWARDS.
Also I think the multiplayer (online) coop still exists in X and Y. Multi Battles involve you getting a friend (I think any friend/acquaintance on your list, not just local.) and battling against I believe some post-game battle gauntlets, as well as competitive battles online. (So you can win or lose with your buddy against other people!)
Apparently it's a little slow to get set up, though. Takes a few minutes to get a match going.
About the Mystery Egg stuff, it has nothing to do with hacking. If Pokemon data gets corrupted at all (including during a trade) it'll create a Mystery Egg. If you ever get a Mystery Egg, just quickly put it into an empty box (Make sure the box is empty.) or it'll turn everything in your party/box (individual box) into more Mystery Eggs. It's a nasty little thing, but it takes about two seconds to get it out of your hair. (Though it clogging up a box is a PITA if you get one, I've never seen one and I do Wonder Trades all the time when I play!)
It certainly won't "corrupt your whole game." :P
And bah, you're a buncha online-avoidin' wussies!
Enjoyed listening so far though!
