The Negative World crew goes Poke-crazy in this Pokemon-centric episode. Clocking in at over two and a half hours, there's enough podcast to fill a Snorlax's belly!

DrFinkelstein and Ninsage invite two of Negative World's finest, Super_Conzo and Deathly_Hallows.

The thing is, they're both new to the Pokemon series with Pokemon X&Y. At first we get a glimpse into what their current Pokemon rosters look like. Considering everybody starts off in the same place, there is surprising diversity between everyone. Then the gang dives into the nitty gritty of Pokemon and specifically Pokemon X&Y. From the graphics to the Pokemon typing, and even an interesting look at the true potential of the Mega Evolution concept, this podcast has something for everyone.

A big thanks to Negative World's creator, Zero for the theme music. This episode lacks interlude music because there's just so much content, I couldn't bare to pad it further with music. Though I highly recommend to check out the various Pokemon soundtracks. They're quite stellar.

Oh crud! Sorry my audio is so terrible. I'm imposing a self-ban on the podcast until I have a decent headset.

(Fink, I'm sure you did your best with it - appreciate that.)

@Super_Conzo

I'm fine with it Conor. Its not super clear but you can be heard and this sort of thing happens when we use different guests all the time. I'd rather have had you on the show like this than not at all. Plus, that noise you hear at the very start of the show is in fact distortion that came from your line on rare occasion. I loved it and put it there in the header of the show because it sounds just like an 8-bit version of a guy walking down stairs from some NES game.

Thanks again for being a part of the show. Whether you get a new headset or not, we would love to have you back.

Yeah, man. I think both you and deathly hallows did really well (audio quality was not a big enough issue to outweigh the content). it was an awesome conversation I believe! <-- completely unbiased opinion

1 hour 50 minutes in and all I've been hearing the entire time is misinformation. :P Your rival is the character you didn't pick (i.e. if you picked boy, girl is your rival), the person you fight at the beginning isn't your rival, just one of your group of friends. Your rival picks the stronger one as usual.

Mega Evolution can in fact change types in certain cases. (Charizardite X turns Charizard into a Fire Dragon, instead of Flying Fire) This means they go beyond a simple gimmick into potential strategic meta matchup mixups. It's mostly for online battling, not necessary for the single player campaign, which you could beat with a Magikarp with your eyes closed.

The story absolutely picks up a lot, but it does drag on forever as a bunch of "LA LA LA NOTHING IS HAPPENING."

Totally agree with giving NPCs more life. Everyone in the Pokemon universe including the anime are all a bunch of mindless cardboard cutouts. Reminds me of Scooby Doo.

Also the feature regression is so terrible! In Gen 5 you could call up the professor and others to check how to evolve Pokemon in your party, your relationships with everyone, your Pokedex would stamp routes that you caught all the available Pokemon in, etc. THEN THEY TOOK TEN STEPS BACKWARDS.

Also I think the multiplayer (online) coop still exists in X and Y. Multi Battles involve you getting a friend (I think any friend/acquaintance on your list, not just local.) and battling against I believe some post-game battle gauntlets, as well as competitive battles online. (So you can win or lose with your buddy against other people!)

Apparently it's a little slow to get set up, though. Takes a few minutes to get a match going.

About the Mystery Egg stuff, it has nothing to do with hacking. If Pokemon data gets corrupted at all (including during a trade) it'll create a Mystery Egg. If you ever get a Mystery Egg, just quickly put it into an empty box (Make sure the box is empty.) or it'll turn everything in your party/box (individual box) into more Mystery Eggs. It's a nasty little thing, but it takes about two seconds to get it out of your hair. (Though it clogging up a box is a PITA if you get one, I've never seen one and I do Wonder Trades all the time when I play!)

It certainly won't "corrupt your whole game." :P

And bah, you're a buncha online-avoidin' wussies!

Enjoyed listening so far though!

Glad you're enjoying the show. Just remember where we all were in the story at the time. I think it says something that we all were apparently confused on what was happening. I don't know if that was because of how they handled the story this time or what.

Also glad to know it picks up. I have put it on hold as there's just so much going on (gaming and otherwise) but I want to follow through to the end. You're the Pokemaniac around here that needs to set us straight to keep us motivated.

Yeah, Isn't it a bummer that NPCs don't feel much more evolved than with Pokemon Red and Blue? It wasn't apparent to me till our conversation here.

Enjoy the rest of the show! I would love to hear you chime in on Mega Evolutions which should be coming up. I didn't even get to take the conversation farther than I wanted to after Joe kind of unlocked this idea for us. Anyway, thanks for listening!

@Xbob42

Can you walk me through the process of playing this online co-op? Talk to me like I'm a 4-year old. I don't want to miss anything. This feature alone would change my Pokemon experience from "yaaay!" to "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!"

Like so:

@NinSage I haven't done it! I've only seen "multi battles" as options in some parts of the game where it says "invite a friend to fight alongside you!"

So... wait for that option at certain places? Mostly post-game and for battling other trainers, methinks.
