Beginning on September 20th, the Wii U Deluxe model will be getting a $50 price drop, bringing the price to $299.99. This is in addition to the already announced Wind Waker HD bundle, which will also retail at $299.99 and include a 32GB hard drive, a Zelda-themed GamePad, and digital copies of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD and the Zelda Hyrule Historia book.

According to Kotaku the basic model is being phased out:

Kotaku said:
Nintendo has all but phased out the white 8GB version of the Wii U, a system that retailers seemed to begin dumping this past spring. That "basic" version of Nintendo's console had originally sold for $299, sans pack-in game. "That has largely sold through in the marketplace," Fils-Aime said. "There is not much of that particular configuration out and we don't expect there to be much at all come September 20."

Both together are 3.8g?

How big was Pikmin 3?? I thought it was only a few gigs.

I can't wait 2 weeks for Wind Waker...unless I see it at my bro's place and play something else in the meantime...I can't stand digital retail games, especially when Wii U offers so little space. Only game I wish I got digitally was Tekken Tag 2 since its something I like to play quickly with outing switching discs. Actually I'd like NSMB and maybe Nintendo Land on the system for the same reason too.

So I guess I don't hate digital downloads. For me they have their place if it's a game I'll wanna play quickly.

Zelda doesn't seem like a good fit for a digital download. Zelda games are typically not the types of games people hop on to play for short bursts every few days--it's more like you splurge on it for a couple weeks, then don't touch it again until a few years later.

@carlosrox

Yes, together. It's one download for both games totalling 3.8gbs. I'll check on the other games once I get home since all of mine are digital except NSMBU.

With the PS3, they said they planned on a 10 year lifespan. So they waited 7 years to replace it (8 for the 360) and both of those will get a reasonable amount of support through at least 2014, so they came close. All the stories though are saying that we should expect this next gen to be even longer than the last, so 10 years isn't out of the question. People are already saying that the leap isn't that huge so it's probably not going to be worth going to another generation until 4K TV becomes affordable, or something like VR or MS's Illumiroom thing can be done in a really awesome way without being too expensive. There's only so much you can do with 1080p, and the PS4 and Xbone are going to at least come close to the max by the time they're done.

I was already considering getting a Wii U when Super Mario 3D World hits, and this makes that more likely now. I was starting to wonder if Nintendo really would lower the price, so it's nice to see that they are.

I won't be getting the Wind Waker bundle though as I'd much rather have Nintendo Land.

as a kid I always wanted a system with a disc changer. Lazyness at the finest. Now we can have a whole collection of games right on our system! And when I finally buy my Wii U I probably WILL opt to buy games digitally, especially if theres some kind of discount program

@Wellsy529

Idk, I would like to go digitally since I'm tired of having my room cluttered with game cases that I probably will never use again, but Nintendo has to step their game up as far as Digital Rights Management as well as their online marketplace. Having games cost $10 less than retail is nice (and not greedy, since other companies would still charge the same, even though they don't have to pay the retailer, or print the discs and put them in a case), but you have regular sales on the PSN Store that slash off more than that.

Furthermore, they need to create a real online account to keep an inventory of online purchases for safekepping. As I understand it now, downloaded games are tied to the console.

This is true, though it is a game I'd likely enjoy booting up just to marvel at its beauty. I do that shit on the REG.

So is this new Zelda system going to pop up on Amazon any time soon? I have some trade ins I want to do and if I also trade in my iPhone 4, once I get a 5s, I'll have more than enough money for it.

@sirmastersephiroth
Amazon doesn't sell Nintendo hardware, Amazon and Nintendo got in a BIG fight, or something.

Yeah, something happened when the 3DS came out supposedly related to returns and ever since then Amazon doesn't carry Nintendo consoles.

@sirmastersephiroth

Don't trade it in. Sell it. I've used that site several times and it's reliable and fair.

I just put down $50 on the new Wind Waker Zelda Wii U! I'm pretty excited. I'm getting the new iPhone and the Wii U, potentially, on the same day.

Edit: @ludist210 I checked it. They quoted $90 for a 16GB iPhone 4. But mine has defective buttons, so it definitely will be less. I asked at Gamestop and they quoted me $70 for the same defective phone.
