3DS 6.2.0-12U firmware update live - StreetPass Relay implemeted

Version 6.2.0-12U available via wireless Internet connection includes the following improvements:
Added support for the StreetPass relay feature:

-The Streetpass relay feature relays StreetPass data from one user that passes a Nintendo Zone to the next user that passes the same Nintendo Zone

-For more information on this feature, click here.
Improved system stability and usability:

-Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

StreetPass relay points are located at Nintendo Zones all across the country. When a Nintendo 3DS user gets near a StreetPass relay point, it automatically stores his or her StreetPass data temporarily and then passes it on to the next Nintendo 3DS user to pass by the same relay point.

StreetPass relay points temporarily store StreetPass data for various games each time a Nintendo 3DS user passes by. This means you can get StreetPass data for several games at once.

Notes:
- You must have your 3DS updated to system version 6.2.0- 0U or higher to take advantage of the StreetPass relay feature.
- Your Nintendo 3DS must be in Sleep Mode (powered on and closed) to exchange StreetPass data.
- You will not receive any StreetPass data from the relay point if you are the first person to pass with a specific game's StreetPass data or if the relay point currently has your StreetPass data.

Why not sign up for a (free) account?

I just checked the locator. I have 18 places in a five mile radius I can go to!

Hmm. So you can only get one at a time? You don't get an entire chunk of people?

I suppose that makes sense. Streetpass would be quickly broken otherwise.

Still, it's neat that it enables people to find a guaranteed Streetpass now.

This is going to RULE!
A small adjustment to my daily cycle and I should be racking up 2 per day. That's 2 more than usual.

Now I can get some of those new streetpass games. Yuss!

Cool. There are 12 places within 3 miles from where I live. And about half of those are on my way to work. Finally, after 2.5 years, this streetpass feature might actually be a useful feature.

Of course, this means that there needs to be other losers out there who actually carry their 3DS and they go to these places. I'm not going to get overly excited about this yet. I still think its going to be hard to get a streetpass around here.

I'm liking this, I need more street passes for more flowers, I need for flowers for more tickets, I need more tickets for more hats, I need more hats for... ?

This is really neat for places where you get few SPs, but I can't help but be sad that this means SPs aren't a two-way thing anymore.

Well I passed by a McDonald's. Don't know if I was close enough but I was probably the first

@deathly_hallows

Stop thinking, or you'll break video games entirely!

I downloaded the update the second I saw this thread (via Twitter, actually) and am excited to possibly get the achievement "X number of days straight with a Streetpass" now. Before it was pretty hit or miss (though it has picked up a TON in the last few weeks).

Speaking of which, I only have 4 hats new available to buy from and a bunch of tickets. I already bought those hats but it doesn't show me anything else. What do I need to do to unlock more hats? I have Mii Force and Monster Manor, by the way.

I am extremely lucky that I have a part time at Disney. So, on a bad day, I get 2 Street Passes. On a regular day, I get all 10. And now that I'm cross-training on a more busy attraction, I'll be sure to get those 10 streetpasses more consistently. It also helps that I have like 6 friends with 3DS in both these attractions.

@Guillaume

I kind of feel the same way. StreetPasses just won't feel as special now, but at least we'll get more of them.

@Guillaume
Well, they can be. This is pretty much just additive, from my perspective. More grist for the flower mill.

Only have a McDs in town and have a few places near my work but if I mass trans home via Hoboken there are like 5 in a 3 block radius.

Hmm. Can't find anything about Nintendo Zones in Australia, despite getting the firmware update.

This troubles me.

@Shadowlink

There used to be Nintendo Zones in Australia, but giant spiders ate them.

@GameDadGrant

How does one eat a zone?

Giant extradimensional spiders.

So I have a Starbucks and Mickey D's on the walk to work. 2 Streetpasses there, 2 Streetpasses back. Unfortunately, three of them were worthless, in terms of puzzle pieces and accumulated armies.

I can believe that. I blame Canberra.

@Shadowlink

I just assumed they ate the wireless routers at Nintendo Zone locations, but these extradimensional creatures sound far more horrifying. And since this is Australia we're talking about, the actual cause is probably the latter.
