News reported by

So here's some news out of left field: A new 3DS firmware update that allows the ability to update Mii Plaza with four (count 'em, four) new games:

- StreetPass Squad
- StreetPass Garden
- StreetPass Battle
- StreetPass Mansion

Unlike previous MiiPlaza content, the new games are paid content available to download from the new Mi Plaza Shop for around $5 or so each, or a bundle deal for all four.

As yet the update only appears to be available in Europe and Japan, will update with further details and exact pricing as info becomes available.

So I got a Streetpass hit on the train today and launched into the new games.

Streetpass Squad is pretty straightforward and could probably be done on Play coins alone. It costs 3 coins to hire one of your previous Streetpassees regardless of level, and different colours grant you different weapon types.

Haven't got very far into Streetpass mansion, but the intro and r_hjort's description was intriguing. IMO this will go better when the Spotpass relay system is up and running and you can get large groups of people together.

Gardening I don't quite get yet. That'll take more involvement.

But Streetpass Battle...glorious conquest! . The person I Streetpassed brought with him another 300+ troops to add to my existing command, and I proceeded to invade the shit out of the neighbouring nation.
For a battle, each army is split into three sections and each section can be one of three troop types Cavalry, Archers, or Infantry- Conveniently also represented by scissor paper and rock icons so you can easily tell what has an advantage over which . By looking at the makeup of the opposing force, you can adjust the three components of your own force to give yourself the best possible advantage. Once you've set your forces, you choose one of your detachments to send against one of your opponents which has been selected at random. Numbers and troop choice will factor into which side wins that battle. Repeat for the remaining two forces, and whoever wins 2 out of 3 rounds wins it all.

After overwhelming my enemy with crushing numbers, 10% of the enemy army then defected to my side and swelled my ranks even further . Conquering the nation also yielded building materials with which I could expand my castle by sacrificing a number of troops (converting them to craftsmen). The exact purposes of upgrading the castle remain unknown to me at present but I'm sure it'll be helpful down the track.

Depending on what kind of Streetpass record the people you normally run across have, this game could be rather tricky or end up being ridiculously broken. I'm willing to bet later levels will ramp up the difficulty fast though- One of the accomplishments is to amass an army of over 1 million troops! Sounds like we might need them....

@Shadowlink
Thanks for the impressions! Sounds great! Will have to devote more time to game once I'm in a better place for getting streetpasses. But holy crap, did that guy have 300 streetpassers in his plaza?! Or am I totally misunderstanding how this game works?

I was wondering where to download the new games, then I realized it's only out in EU and JP. What's the hold up, NoA?

I don't think I'd ever pay for stuff like this.

@anon_mastermind The holdup is apparently that the games can cause crashes, and so NA are waiting until they get fixed before releasing them.

Yeah, and I imagine NoA is also waiting until that StreetPass "tag" system to get in place first, with 3DS owners being able to StreetPass other players via Wi-Fi HotSpots at participating McDonald locations and other locations. (I think Starbucks is another?)

@Mop it up

It's fixed though. They fixed it the other day.

@r_hjort

Yep. (So do I BTW )

I've seen bigger though.

@Shadowlink
Wow. I have about 30 people in my Plaza, so 300 sounds insane to me! How many of those have their Mii's and info stored?

@r_hjort

Most of them I think. I have 343 people from 370 hits.

@Shadowlink
That's really impressive!

@r_hjort

I'm sure it's not, I've seen people with far more .

Although it works out to slightly less than one hit every two days. Even factoring in the 30 hit run I got at the Zelda Symphony, that's not bad.

Incidentally, it seems that the freezing glitch that came with the first update was triggered only amongst those who had large numbers of Mii's in their plaza! Go figure.

I've gotten a new Streetpass here in Pittsburgh almost daily since I got my 3DS XL and started carrying it around! If anyone rarely gets them, you might consider trying it again, because it seems like more folks are out and about with sleeping DSs now. :)

I hope the giddy feeling I get when I see the little glowing icon next to the Mii Plaza square never goes away.

Just bumping this thread to say that StreetPass Garden is growing on me. No pun intended.

It started out slow, but now I find myself having quite a lot of stuff to do. I'm growing several plants at once (even though I can only actively water one at a time during every gardening session with my guests), trying to harvest seeds to expand my library of plants or to sell in town, working for the local flower store, decorating my garden, and even looking into expanding my garden in one of several available styles.

This game might not be deepest management game out there, but for a StreetPass game, there is definitely more than meets the eye. I even spent more coins on bribing guests to come to my garden than I did hiring mercenaries in my beloved StreetPass Squad today.

These better get released in NA before Comic Con. You have less than a month, NOA!

Srsly. Why should Americans have to wait?

We're the chosen people!!

I don't even want to garden in real life, and the only seed I want to share with anybody is my own, and that is only if they are a hot chick (like my wife). *INSERT_EWW_GROAN_COMMENTS_HERE*

@Anand

That's right, you have been chosen. Chosen to wait.

Australia wins again.

Dear god. Ran into my first 'Monarch from Afar' in Streetpass Battle. He had an army of nearly 30,000 troops already! WTF?!

Needless to say I chose not to challenge him and merely welcomed him meekly. He magnanimously deigned to give me 80 extra troops. Jerk.

I've ALMOST completed Find Mii (the first time) and I'm now at the point where I'm finding myself wanting to go to real life places where I think I might get a streetpass just to get a streetpass maybe, ha ha.

@Shadowlink So once again Australia gives up instantly in the face of a superior foreign power.
