Nintendo E3 2013 Wii U: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze announced (trailer + images inside!)

Whether you wanted them be or not, Retro Studios has been deep at work on a new Donkey Kong Country game, and they have finally lifted the veil and showed us their work. One of the first things that you will notice is that... gasp!... Donkey Kong and pals swim underwater again in this game!

The enemies this time are viking animals, which works for me, I guess? Also, Dixie is back. I'm pumped, what about you?

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze will be released in November of 2013. Get your wallets ready!

Dixie being back totally sold it for me.

I admit that I expected them to be working on something else... but there are certainly worse things they could have been doing!

If co-op's back, then I'm on board.

I'm alright with this. Though I still need to play DKCR.

Yeah you may laugh at me.

@chrisbg99 Now that's awesome.

@Mop it up

Don't they have two teams now? I would like to see what they can do with a new IP from the ground up. With that said, DKC TP looks good, the characters look so full of life.

@Tranquilo Don't ask me, I don't follow what developers are doing.

I also wanted them to be working on something else, but now that the disappointment has worn off, this looks gorgeous.

I'll be grabbing this for sure.

This was my biggest disappointment of the show so far. Let Retro have something new and exciting. Enough DK Country games, we've gotten too many in too short of a time!

Bah. I REALLY hope Retro is working on two projects at once. REALLY hope.

One of the best games of the generation gets a sequel this year? I'm more than okay with this!

I'm really excited for it. Yeah, I wanted either a new IP or another Metroid Prime, but DKCR is in the running for greatest platformer I've ever played. Why not get excited about a sequel made more or less by the same team?

@chrisbg99

Oh man. DKCR's only flaw now rectified.

Well, that and the shake to roll.

Getting more hyped now...

Both Super Mario 3d Land and DK CANT be their super special projects that take up most of their crew, im sure both studios could poop these type of titles out with 25% of their respective work force. im hopefull that an EPIC Mario title (Galaxy 3) and Metroid title are in the works....cause if they arent.....:(

not dissing Mario and DK, im sure ill enjoy them. im ashamed to say that i never finished DKCR.

@-JKR- Too many? We got one a few years ago. The 3DS one is a port of that one.

@Unplugged3 25%?! I think game development works differently than you think it does.

@Zero

And now another. What happened to the time between these things that Nintendo used to have? I miss that. Give me time away to pine for the game, like Luigi's Mansion. The Pikmin 3 wait was almost unbearable, which is why I'm SO looking forward to it in a few months. This doesn't feel new and exciting. This feels like tacking on levels to an existing game and releasing it for full price.

I WANT NEW STUFF FROM RETRO DANG IT!

Like I said, it's just because the news that this is what Retro is up to was my biggest disappointment of show, that's all. In the end, no big deal, life goes on. I just wanted so much to see Retro spread their wings and soar. This feels like Retro in a cage with its wings tied together.

I'm disappointed about Retro working on this too, but oh well. This new one looks a lot more appealing to me than the original. The camera angle stuff looks crazy!

@Secret_Tunnel

Great point. Those panning cameras looked INCREDIBLE. So epic (though I hate to use that word so much) and cinematic. Like playing something so much larger than a 2D sidescroller. Very, very cool.
